red is good. But any strong contrast and not offensive to the natural surroundings color would work. I believe it definitely needs contrast.

Thanks for the SW link. I will take a look. I do like the Crisp Romaine color that was suggested. I think it might go well with the surroundings and water view from the back.

there is a color green that fits into the woods nicely. the closest color to describe it would be sage. Very close to the first green door, but warmer. Love the black trim.

The wood siding is too fresh / cedar / orange for me to go with blue greens, or even sage greens. The white fascia board is throwing me off too .. and the metal roof has a bit of a plum brown undertone. I want to suggest a strong sunshine yellow -

Do address the foundation .. maybe use a color like the roof along the foundation (you can buy a quart and mix it 1 to 1/2 with water and sort of slap dash it . you are not trying to get an even coat but just deepen the tone visually until plantings can gro in_ . . will you paint the trim around the window and door white like the fascia? Definitely try a strong yellow tone if you keep white trim - I like bm Viking yellow ..

The siding can be stained or will age naturally sooner than you'd think.

The white fascia board will be painted the same color as the door. The siding has one coat if stain and will be putting on another coat soon. My husband is leaning towards a shade of tan but that sounds a bit bland to me.

Tan is too bland - and hard to find the right shade against the stain and white . . kiwi's blues are cool with white and cedar. If the trim is to be white, you could also go to a deep pine tone .. something like http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/pinegreen#ce_s=pine

Trim will be the same color as the door.
