Bleach works. However continued use of bleach can have detrimental effects on the item being cleaned as it eventually will destroy the surface.

My wife is a great believer in bleach for cleaning and sterilization. I have to replace the toilet seats about every five years as the bleach slowly destroys them, BUT they are clean and sterile. ;-)

Yeah- my apartment renters want to put bleach tablet in the toilet tanks. It eats the guts out of the plastic valving over time.

Obviously depends what is being sterilized. I doubt that one alcohol matters much over another unless we are cleaning woodwork. The reason for the ~30 % water is it helps get the product into cellular structures.
