You may get answers here but there is a Fruit and Orchards Forum specifically for edibles where lots of experienced Blueberry growers hang out.

You want to mix varieties for best pollination and to stretch out harvest. Plant at least 5-6 feet apart. Your county extension should be able to recommend varieties best suited for your area. And most important, make sure your soil is acidic enough and that you can water during dry periods. (Blueberries have shallow roots and REALLY need the water.)

Mail order is fine and you won't have to wait 8 years. Four maybe, but not 8. Starts that are too big don't establish well.

And protect against deer!

Google which are best for your area...I was contemplating growing some myself, but I saw it said it took years before you would actually get berries? I could be wrong, but that's what deterred me from purchasing some. You want to plant a cpl different varieties so they play off each other as far as producing fruit. Idr the site but there was a page that brought up every kind of blueberry bush and what the fruit looked like color wise and size wise..also the taste, whether sweet or bitter...there is nothing I hate more than going to buy blueberries only to have them taste bitter >:( so I knew I wanted sweet juicy ones!! I want to say 'bluecrop' was one of the varieties that produced that type of fruit. Again Google it, lots of pages are there for help on choosing
