superhero crib quilt

My niece found a crib quilt and skirt for sale on etsy that she fell in love with. Knowing the baby was a boy, she chose super heroes as the theme. The quilt and skirt were for sale for $395! She asked if I could duplicate it and I told her that the hardest part would be finding the exact fabric used in the original and she said she would be happy if I could find something similar. Well, I got lucky and found the exact print for the panel. The chevron turned out to be the most difficult to find. Some ran the wrong way and I definitely did not want to have to piece it, because given the measurements of a crib quilt, the corners would not all have the points in the right place. The back of the original quilt was a solid red. For an extra hundred dollars, some throw pillows were available with ZAP and POW on them. Baby doesn't need throw pillows, so I surprised her and put the words on the back of the quilt.

I ran into a glitch when I went to put the back and front together. I had no idea that the red I used was only 36 inches wide. Didn't know they still made fabric that small. Had to add a bit of yellow along the sides and didn't quite get the back and front together perfectly straight, but she didn't seem to mind.

Great job! Pieced backs are perfectly fine by me. Love the Ka-Pow! Zap! and Pow! Did you applique those on? Really nice and I am sure she loves it!

Yes, I appliqued them on with a satin stitch.
