Annette, I have seen your post here, and the fact that nobody has answered you for over 2 years, makes me want to reply. I am sure by now you have filled the area you wanted to plant, or at least have gotten some cool plants there already. It may be the several drinks I've had tonight or not, just don't let them get you down, and really you could've probably (and most likley have) chosen the right plants, maybe even less expensively than if you had bought them at the snooty garden center.

I went and got my hair trimmed today, and the lady trimming my hair walked away to get the phone, and, she was so shocked that the lady who called said "what time is the latest time you will give perms there"? And the stylist said 5 PM, and the woman who called said "what the F is it with all you people, some people have jobs and can't come that early?" Can you believe that? I would think maybe the lady who called needs to request a day off, so she can come when those hair places can give her a perm, think about it starting at 5 pm and time for the perm to set up and do it's thing, then wash it out and style, so about 8 pm for it all to be done, I would think most hair places will close at 8 or 9 PM. Some people just don't realize that other people have lives too.

There is a garden center near me that has really snooty help/owners too. It’s an upscale town, don’t know if that’s the reason, but I’ve stood at the counter waiting to ask a question and been ignored while they chat or do something else. I’ve also asked where to find something and had them vaguely point in the direction of the location of the item in question and go back to what they were doing. People out in the plant area who are watering don’t even look up to say hello when you pass by them while shopping for plants.

Many years ago I told the owner behind the counter that they treated their customers in an unfriendly way and she seemed surprised. I didn’t go back there for over ten years, until recently. Not much has changed. Not a good business plan when you are also more expensive than other GCs in the area.

I hear their business is not doing well. When I was there recently , there were only one or two other customers, or none. I wonder why.

Wow Saypoint, It is really a shame because many times you can order plants online, you may have to pay for shipping, but, you can order JUST what you want, sure you may need to do a plant ID search on the internet, to make sure you are ordering JUST WHAT YOU WANT, but, you can order these plants and don't have to deal with snooty plant people.

Personally, if you see a plant at a nursery you want, and they get snooty, I would not let that get to me, IF you KNOW it's the plant you want, and you can buy it and not pay shipping online, buy it there and if they try and trip you up, don't let them. Tell them YOU KNOW YOU WANT that plant, and HOPEFULLY you really can grow that plant. You really need to know your winter Hardiness zone. That will tell IF you can REALLY grow a certain plant outdoors in your area. IF the plant is too tender, you will likely need a greenhouse, or a way to cover and heat the plants over winter.

Anyway Saypoint, I just meant that you can get plants in so many places, but, if you see a plant locally that you want, the more educated you are about that plant, the less that snooty plant vendor would make you feel stupid while talking about that plant.

But, hopefully, the snooty person who works there will have a lottsa education about the plant you want to grow, IF NOT they are just a snoot with NO GOOD REASON to be snooty.

I HOPE they do have a good reason to be snoot. In other words, they are highly knowledgeable about all of their plants. Later.

Just don't think too much about Snooty Greenhouse/ Nursery employees. Really, people can order plants from so many different sources. But, You will need to do some research on some plants and make sure it will grow where you live outdoors. And really, you can take a pic on your phone, and then post it online on the Gardenweb, Garden forums, and you can get info on just what the plant is, and then you can get info on where to purchase the plant. It really isn't that hard to get info on that plant, and mostly you would see the plant and really know just what it is, and be able to name the plant or a plant that is related to it.
