Id Help/ Pruning advice?

So I got this Clematis last year at the end of summer, it had a few blooms on it at that time.

I did no pruning to it at all, and just let it go dormant over the winter. This spring it came back super healthy and strong, and put flowers out in April. I deadheaded all the flowers, now the leaves are turning brown.

So I'm wondering if this is normal for this plant, and if I should just prune it right back.

MAY ^
APRIL ^

Im a little confused about why it had flowers at the end of summer last year, will this bloom twice in a year?
