Agree with previous comment. TV needs to be lowered down, cords need to be tucked away. Paint will refresh the room and a new rug will make a big difference. Also as mentioned, de-cluttering is starting point and re-arrange decor and pictures in groups or vignettes so they have more impact

Here's a $359 tv stand that would look nice. The TV comes down and rests on the table. Then you have storage for other things. The artwork needs to be taken down and rethought. Switch out the black ceiling fan for a white one. If you can get that far....post a pic.

These are outdoor rugs and they are so practical and lovely. Cream colored walls (SW bone white is nice) with bright white trim.

Be sure to include Mom in selecting any new pieces of furniture. Mothers do have their own styles, and it will give you some nice time together. She will say you are spending too much, so plan ahead for telling her that it means a lot to you to be able to give her a comfortable new room. And I also love HomeGoods.
