Which white for my kitchen?

Hi all,

Cross posted from Painting. I need help finding the perfect white to paint our dining room, kitchen, and entry. All rooms flow into each other. I want to avoid yellow/ivory whites, and I also want a softer white. Any ideas? Oh, and it needs to be a Sherwin Williams paint color, simply for convenience. Painters come Wednesday, and I don't have time to track down samples!

Here's a picture of the kitchen just for an idea... Obviously the colors are off.

It's very hard to give advice on something as elusive as paint color that will look different depending on certain light in a certain space-based just on photos and description. People can share their experiences with you to narrow your choice-but your best bet will be still to sample these proposed colors. Otherwise you might get stuck with a result you don't like.

Since I've no experience with Sherwin Williams, and can't contribute even a couple of paint names, I'd suggest your best bet would be going to the store, ask the color consultant for a clean, soft white that doesn't lean too off-white and warm, but doesn't read too icy and stark too..see what he/she suggests, buy two-three-four samples, and test them in your space. Better to use white pieces of paper for that, so you can move them around and see them in your entry, dining, kitchen..

Or:maybe somebody here will have a nice suggestion of color names from SW, but I'd still try to see it on my walls first..

Because when I was young and fierce lol, we painted our living space in charming creamy white-but when it dried it happened to look peachy pink.

I should have clarified. I will try samples on the walls before making a final decision, but I don't have time to go anywhere but Sherwin Williams. It's just the closest store, and it happens to be the brand our painter prefers. White is hard!

Do you have a fan deck or chips? I'd make sure it works with your counters. Doesn't look like there's any yellow in them and you're saying you want to stay away from that tone of whites so that's good.

What about SW Aria Ivory? It's a retired paint color, but they can still mix a sample. You can google images to get an idea. It's a very nice neutral color with no yellow. I have a sample and would like to use it, but feel my current furnishings need a little more color to look right.

You can use colors from any paint brand and still get Sherwin Williams to mix it.. They now all have the formula's for each others colors so your options are actually unlimited. I used Behr's Cup of Cream for all of our trim, it's a soft creamy white and seems to work well with the varied changes of lighting throughout our home.

Moderne White is a cool grey-white that has some green undertone. That's going to accentuate the warm tones in your cabinets and flooring and it might not be in a flattering way -- but look at it in your space.

I would start on the ever so slightly warm side of neutral -- greyed beige tones rather than creamy beige or cooler greys.

When you go to the store, see if you can pick up a fan deck, Look at the whites and pastels section. The first three strips in that section would be my starting point -- colors like Pearly White, Incredible White, Eider White, Snowbound. Check them with both floors, the trim, cabinets and counters. You are running out of time, but hope you can look at the paint in daylight and tonight with artificial light.

shesas I totally get it..that's how I had to study Dunn-Edwards paint colors:) I had no idea they even existed. But apparently they are big here(West Coast), and our painters preferred them..
