Broken glass, recycled glass or buffed fossil stone would look awesome. you can get the broken glass countertops with cobalt blue pieces in it.

Tammy not familiar with buffed fossil stone.
Will look into it . Like the idea of recycled glass.
Are they both easy to keep clean? It is a small
Beach condo . What do you think of white marble ?

Tammy, any more information on the buffed fossil stone? It's beautiful. Thank you.

Yes the fossil stone has the same maintenance as all other naturals products. Like granite and marble they are porous so they can stain.
It can be sealed with a sealer that will definitely help. The biggest thing with marble and fossil stones are acidic things like red wine, tomato juice etc. granite is more versatile when it comes to staining. Oils are what stains them the most. The fossil stone in the picture I posted is a man made fossil stone, which means it is made from all natural stone by crushing it up and then compressing it. It is just as harsh as solid slabs If not more so. This one is a quartzite stone that has been honed and buffed which gives it a more natural appearance, not the shiny finish you get from polishing natural stone.
We have a great source for stone slabs in our area that is MSI stone in Atlanta. You can go to their website and look at almost anything available in the market today. It's www.msistone.com. Your kitchen will be beautiful with this in it. I hope this has been helpful

Oh yeah Linda the man made quartzite does not have to be sealed. It won't stain like the solid natural slabs. So for a kitchen this may be the best to go with. White marble is beautiful but does stain and also gets etched as well from acidic foods

Tammy, is the photo you posted your kitchen? It's stunning. The countertop and the wood of the island go beatification together. Would you have info on the wood finish? Is it oak? Any stain on it? What finish on top? I'm looking for an oak finish that would not yellow. My cabinet maker offers a clear oil-based lacquer, but the sample we received gives a yellowish golden hue to the oak, which I would prefer to avoid.

You are so welcome Kashmila. And no this isn't my kitchen. I agree with you , it is beautiful!!!! I'm not sure what kind of wood that is. Maybe poplar. I don't know for sure but it may have a light white wash over it. That's what it looks like.
I can tell you though that all lacquer finishes on cabinets will cause the woods to take on a yellow color.. Ask
Your cabinet man to give you as sample with a water based satin finish on it to look at. It will not be yellow like the oil based lacquer. Also, he could do a white wash finish for you to see also. make sure he knows you are not wanting a pickled finish. Just a lightly applied white wash. Best of luck to you!! I would love to see what you end up doing. I know it will be beautiful!!

Thanks Tammy. I will for sure send you a photo when all done :)
I asked for water based satin. He said they don't do it and don't want to experiment, probably not to compromise their finish, I imagine. Slightly baffling for a full custom shop. I will find a way even if it means looking into a different builder. It's not an uncommon request.

Well a lot of cabinet guys do the lacquer finish because it does hold up a lot longer and it can be sprayed on. However our first home had heart pine cabinets in it and our cabinet man put a water based satin on them because that's what I wanted and they still look like new today, 17 years later. Some guys just don't want to do anything but the norm. They're
Not used to thinking outside the box. Haha. It can be done though and be amazing when it's finished. Good luck!!
