I got the blues

I recently painted the walls in my bedroom "trout grey", but they look trout blue... I was considering using red as an accent color (pillows, art, etc.) but now I am tempted to use a blue to match the walls. Is that a good idea? Also, does the picture with the reds and golds need to go?

What a dramatic room! I like squiggle's idea of light curtains to provide some contrast. I think it's a good call. I think the painting can work, but you might have to rethink your concept. Was the painting part of your vision for the room or was it put there as an afterthought? Content wise, it doesn't seem to be part of the vision.

I'd like to suggest that you layer your bed to stay in keeping with the luxe feel you have. Think about folding the duvet back, adding a textured throw and incorporating some Euro shams.

I actually love the color. I guess depending on where you live and the amount of sun you get it may feel dark at times (like for me I live in Seattle... so it is dark... a lot). I would hang some white flowing curtain panels on a nice chrome rod to off set the dark wall. It will also tie into the trim and make it pop more. Just remember (assuming you like the look) to hang the rod high above the window as to not squish the room.

I think you need a warm color for your room as an accent. I would not add blue.

RE: the artwork-- keep it if you feel emotionally connected to it. If it brings you joy to see it in the room, it should stay. If not, look for another room for it.

I love the room and wall color. Very pretty! I agree with Manon. I love the art but doesn't look perfect for the space. As far as adding an accent I agree to not do blue. I was thinking a golden yellow..like Manon's 3rd photo. If you love the art there (it can work), the golden yellow still works because there is yellow in the art as well.

Beautiful Room! I agree the blue does not work. Maybe paint the trout blue wall in a silver leaf or silvery color of some kind. That would pop that upholstery and nice rug and still look good with the shades. Picture is a little bit tricky because of the yellow and red. Probably not the best place for it. I think bringing in vivid colors is going detract from the scheme. Keep it simple and soothing because it is a bedroom.

Adding white flowy curtains to soften and lighten the room was my first thought also. I feel red pillows would cheapen the look. As someone mentioned, Manon's 3rd picture with the mustard pillows would be nice. The painting is stunning, but might not match the feel of the rest of the room.

I'd layer on some rich red and add some flowers like poppies to the side table. It's a serious room that just needs a bit of heat!

Yellow would finish the room- the mustard color mentioned above. I think the blue and white pillow needs to be softer it would bring the wall color in.
