No, but I hope you report back with how it does in your care! I almost picked one up at $15 for a 5 gal. from a clearance section five months ago, but I went with the less expensive $9 Thungbergia erecta instead. The Thunbergia is not doing much, so I am second guessing that choice. I might give the Tabernaemontana a try, given another chance.

This was a 1 gallon for $14 at Green Arrow nursery in North Hills, LA. They also had some 5 gallons for $32 but I've been spending a lot of money on plants lately and the 1 gal looked vigorous. It was a little root bound but the roots looked healthy and flexible.

Given a choice, I almost always go with the 1 gal., unless there is a reason I needed a larger plant immediately.

Here is an update with some photos. You can see that the main stem is pretty thick for a 1 gallon, it had been sitting in the nursery quite a while and had been cut back several times. But it seemed healthy and I'd never seen one before so I took a chance and bought it. It was very root bound and I had to spend some time pulling at the roots. That's probably why it just sat there for about 6 weeks with no visible changes. But in the last 3 weeks it's grown quite a bit and has started to flower. Most of what you see is new growth, about 10". I love the deep green, glossy tropical looking leaves. Unfortunately, even though it is said to have strong fragrance, to me there is almost none at all, I was hoping for some for this place next to the patio. I'll try to remember to update again after it has gained some size. I'm hoping to see a 6' shrub eventually to screen off a side view of our neighbors.

Your plant appears to be quite happy with the conditions you have provided! As is the case with some orchids I have grown, fragrance is sometimes influenced by the time of day/night, and temperatures. I believe your plant's flowers tends to release scent in the evenings. But if temperatures are cooler that usual at that time, as an example, then it might be fainter than expected. I don't know first hand about your particular plant, that is just noticeable fragrance variations for some plants in general terms. The number of flowers might be a factor. As your shrub increases in size, and produces more blooms, you may be able to detect the fragrance more easily.

Great looking plant. In California,most tropical scented plants need to have a nose plunked right on them. Exceptions might be Angels Trumpets like Charles Grimaldi (powerful scent and does fill the air)or Citrus or some Pittosporums. But few others come close to wafting in summer breezes in our dry air,even on a warm summer evening. Hoya's ..not much if any. Stephanotis..not that I notice. In a greenhouse is all..

You have to creep up on tabernaemontana to get the scent. Most times if it sees you coming, it would shut off all scent. And the nurseries called this a strong scented plant. Lol

I had this plant for 7 years and never knew it had a scent until I passed one in front of my nose. So I cut some flowers and brought it into my bedroom and every now and then I get a faint waft of mild mild scent.
