Hi Nikki,there's a fellow over on hvac that use's what he refer's to as his magic 8 ball for questions such as this. Hopefully he doesn't catch me useing it and put knots on my head for borrowing it. Your discription lead's me to believe the table has been coated with silicon (pledge) or has shellac as the topcoat. If that's the case and you are ok with the finish outside the white marking,here you go. Wipe it off with DuPont Prep-Sol or equvilent available where fine paints are sold. If it look's good with no white,just use it a few days to see if problem is solved. If not,clean it up and remove as many white marks as you can. Wait for a low humidity day to wipe it down with DuPont Prep-Sol or equivelent. If any hint of white remains,test that area by applying a quick coat of shellac. I want to emphasis you must work quickly to apply shellac and do not rebrush until next coat. Shellac desolve's old shellac which is the secret to success in getting rid of the marks but increases possability of brush marks. If white disappear's,coat intire top. If shellac test doesn't work,do the same with slow dry brushing or spray lacquer to see if white go's away. At this point you can apply your choice of top coats suitable for applying over material you have on it. Do not use the table with new coat ,it will only turn white again. Ask us how to rub it out if finish is uneven. Win,lose or draw,throw the Pledge away or quit the refinishing business.
