Outdoor decor ... again

All the pool furniture and pillows and towels are in situ and looking great. I added rugs and new lights to the verandah (thanks for those suggestions everyone! ) and went with the muted pillows (I was so glad they worked).

By the pool, I have a seating area with armchairs and ottomans with an umbrella, a separate area with chaises, and a third, raised area with our dining table and umbrella. The first two of those areas need some occasional tables. They don't need to be big because they are also close to a sitting wall that is a good height for putting things, but they should at least hold a glass of sangria and a literary-size paperback, LOL!

The problem is that we are direct oceanfront and it can sometimes we windy, and that the stuff is there unattended for stretches of time. I don't want wicker or teak tables because we have so much of it (the dining chairs are all highback wicker), big teak table, teak chaises. I love ceramic but it would almost certainly break. I want something interesting and different.

So that leaves me with metal but ... what about rust? The patio is irregular bluestone with creeping thyme. It is rustic but a big rust stain ... hmm? Isnt stainless the only thing that does't rust. Could I wax it? or??

Mtn, I recently put one of the ceramic 'tables' outside, and it hasn't moved. We've had VERY heavy winds as well as rain over the last few week w/o 'incident'. Sorry about the half pic, but the sun is blinding today.

I love that table. And I love the b/w/green scheme!

We had a tall umbrella in a very heavy stand. I didn't think the night was particularly windy, but the umbrella (mistake to leave it open over night) was lifted and then skewered like an enormous toothpick in the nearby flowerbed!

I'm just imaging one of those lovely garden stools break, and we end up with big shards in the pool ...

What about resin? This is 13 lbs. Is that heavy enough?

Your drum table says it's aluminum. Aluminum doesn't rust,

"Aluminum corrodes but it does not rust. Rust refers only to iron and steel corrosion. Aluminum is actually very prone to corrosion. However, aluminum corrosion is aluminum oxide, a very hard material that actually protects the aluminum from further corrosion"

I have a ceramic garden stool we use as a table between the two chaises. Ours doesn't have holes in it -- I didn't want wasps to be able to get inside. Ours has never budged. If you have holes for the wind to pass through, it would be less likely to tip.

We have the ceramic stool/table from Crate and Barrel in the picture below. It is extraordinarily heavy. There is no way that wind could tip this thing over.

Before I comment, I want to see pics!!! Pretty please??

    Oly, Thank you!

AKT, I didn't take any because it was just opened Mem Day and we were only there for the weekend. I will take some next time. My landscape architect has already asked me if I would be willing to have it in a magazine, but he said that would be done in about 2yrs when things have filled in more. I usually say no but hey, maybe someday it would help sell the property (you never know).

Nanarie, I love the color of that one.

Lascatx .. apparently i need a lesson not just in chemistry and geology but physics to answer my question, LOL!

Gardener, cool, where is that from?

I like stone or articicial stone by the ocean for tables. It weathers beautifully. Pebble mosaic looks nice too. The stone is heavy and wind never bothers it. Weathered metal looks neat but will it stain your floor? One time the sudden wind carried our big umbrella almost over the fence and into the neighbors garden. I'm so happy I caught it in time.

I saw that ceramic table at C&B just the other day. It's really pretty IRL.

mtn, I've never studied physics (at least formally as in a full semester or year class), but I have lived most of my life in hurricane and thunderstorm territory. You learn what blows over or away first.

I live by the ocean and I don't think a ceramic garden stool would blow over. I think they'd be perfect since they can also be used for sitting.

Namarie, I just saw that exact stool at Home Goods last week. It was so heavy I couldn't move it or pick it up find a price sticker. (It was in the middle of a display.). I had no idea it was from Crate and Barrel.

Interesting, bluebell! I didn't realize C&B sold their things elsewhere but if it was as heavy as you say, it sure sounds like the same stool!
