They do look too tall to use as coffee tables!

They look a little tall, but you could take a saw and cut the legs down a bit.

Thx for the info, tedbixby! I will definitely keep that in mind. I'm finding it quite difficut to find tables of that height that are small and square. Cutting down the legs would be something that I would do if these were for me (in case I mess up) but I'm shopping for some friends of mine.

IKEA has lots of small square coffee tables. Very inexpensive too.

We used two end tables as a coffee table and I like the minor height difference. It's a TV room so we use it for drinks and popcorn. Not for chatting.

True. This space will be their main living space so I think I'll try for something slightly shorter.
