Butterfly Bush in Mixed Container?

Hi- I just planted a Butterfly Bush in a large terra cotta pot and wanted to know whether I can add other plants in the same container.

I've lots of English ivy that would work visually but I wanted to be sure it would be compatible - care, water, etc.

I'm on a 7th floor balcony in Brooklyn, NY if that matters....
