If you've installed it in your house already, maybe they don't like how it looks with the rest? But I think it's a conversation piece.

It could be totally stunning with the right other stuff. I don't think the whole rest of your room needs to be Asian--just very subdued, modern and neutral. Then pop this chandelier in as a real focal point.

If you're going Asian or highly ecclectic and a little funky with the decor It might work well. Otherwise, it will look like you stole it from a Chinese restaurant lobby. In fact, that's where I think I've seen it before!

one of the sad takeaways i have from houzz is so very many people are so wrapped up in being part of a decorating herd. if its not x y and z, then forget it. decorating paint by numbers. no this, no that, mustnt do this for heavens sake you cant paint your kitchen YELLOW its DATED.

I had a Chinese room. All traditional furniture , red, navy, black and mustard. Looked great. It was a formal living area, not where the TV was. Westerners loved it. A Chinese student I got to babysit my kid burst out laughing. She wanted to know "why?"

What a unique piece! I could see this in a setting that was for Asian leaning looks; or using it as a statement piece to inspire a creative design in a library, dressing room or even an entry. Great potential. You have a good eye. It also encompasses auspicious good luck red, with references to the auspicious pagoda shapes. I could build a whole space around this. Keep it and let your creativity show you some great ways to use it.

It's a gorgeous chandelier! A few months ago, Houzz ran a story about rooms having one "wrong" piece, that in fact made the room! A chandelier like that would be considered "wrong" in a traditional room, would be the star! Photos, please!

It's funny how something can kind of give a person confidence where there was none....

It actually is the same, but all brass. And (confession time) I got it off Craigslist for 200 bucks.

It will go in my dining room which I just painted beige and beige...with beige curtains because I had no direction and was honestly going to go.....metaphorically beige with it.

But now I would like to make it vaguely chinoiserie-ish.

I am glad you bought it. Chandeliers are important pieces and should add drama to the table and the room. But i would encourage you to repaint the beige walls. If you are going to use a fixture as important as this, the rest of the room will die if beige.

I'm not sure what I think of it personally. It wouldn't suit my home at all. I could see the attraction though. If you love it then you should use it, fill your home with the things that make you happy. You want it to be a place you feel good being in.
