Well, they're certainly better than the fruits on ornamental Asian flowering quince.

how is your quince rootstock doing, let us know if you got any fruit on it

Chaenomeles, ornamental quince, is a different species from Cydonia, fruiting quince. It's not surprising they are different eating quality. However, Chaenomeles makes perfectly good jelly.

Hi Yovan. I don't have quince rootstock growing, so I can't keep you updated. I might plant it someday, because it seems to be more cold-hardy and disease resistant than cultivated varieties in my climate. I do have flowering quince/chaenomeles, but I just planted them and don't have fruits yet. True quince are sold at around 3$ a piece here (Qc), which is comparable to the price of about 6 apples... So... I rarely buy any and would love to grow my own. Thanks, Floral_uk, for sharing your experience with Chaenomeles jelly.
