Siting area in the kitchen

Hi I am trying to set up a sting area in our kitchen. The grey sofa is mine. The grey accent chair I just purchased but can return. I was hoping to get some advice in terms of the chair. Dies this accent chair work? It so cones in a dark charcoal grey (see pic). If do, I spud purchase two. Ha wounding arrange? Is it too grey? If I keep what color rug would you recommend? Coffee table?

Sorry lots of questions! I would truly appreciate some help in designing this space. When sitting on the couch you see the kitchen. Many thanks!

One more thing. I couldn't see the fibers on these. But avoid Viscose. You can't clean it and it is fragile. Wool is most durable m

Hi Flo, thanks for checking in. Busy time so had to put on put on hold for a bit. However, did locate a place that focuses mainly on retro pieces and did find a place to reupholster chairs. (Once I find the right material). Actually they also have a chair I really liked and the size works. So will look at that and see what works better. Please see pic. As well I really like a rug I saw on way fair but am holding off until I get the chair.

Hi... seeing your chair, I am posting what seems the same, merely in case it's a better fit as to price, etc...

This chair measures 26.5 W x 24 D x 32.5 H. I also like this carpet. Thoughts? I think I need to stay away from a shad rag only because the area goes in and out to the backyard and would prefer a rug that easier to maintain. Thanks

Still going to look for the simba navy blue chenille you suggested. I'm in Toronto so us prices can get quite high.

I like that chair. I love the color and it is good with your sofa. Like rug too but couldn't see what fiber is. Understand concern with shag. Keep having fun!

Since you see the kitchen, why not post a photo of it? :)

    Thank you! Oh yes!

Possibly that you have 2 greys, don't use another large solid of grey [rug]. It might just look 'off'. Pattern with grey, not solid, you think? Where have the colors gone, in chairs?!

Have you saved photos in your ideabooks? I have some called 'greys and browns' which have wood floors and grey, etc.... to think about.

Yes I agree, if I go solid color on the chairs then rug needs a pattern. If I end up reupholstering the chairs that. I have I will use a pattern on the chairs and not so much on the area rug. I just want I get a rug that will hold up,to the high traffic in and out of the backyard.

I would recommend a medium sized plant in the corner. I just got a dwarf avocado tree and it's really brightened my living room and added dimension to it. I've been thinking of putting another neat plant like it in my kitchen. For something like that you'll need a grow light though. I chose and recommend the Aspect. It's sort of like a gallery light but it grows plants. If you're interested you can check it out at www.soltechsolutionsllc.com/aspect. Again, I think plants enhance any space and would really work well in yours. Best of luck!

Hi Flo, and fellow houzzers! So I'm at it again! Not sure why but it's taking me awhile to commit to a design. I'm having such a hard time making a decision. I have been searching for a rug but nothing yet. So I tried the aqua retro chair in my space but it just did not work. The chair comes in a mustard/ yellow color as well. (As well as a burnt orange) but not too crazy about that color. Unfortunately I can't get a pic of the yellow. I also came across a grey chair (I can return) and just thought I would try in the space. Flo i still love the idea of reupholstering my chairs. So would love some advice on what you think would be best. I posted some pics. The retro chair also comes with an ottoman??? Again I don't think I would comit to the orange . I know I need to make a decision. So I think I need to narrow down to the following! The retro looking chair? Reupholstering my chairs for the space, or a grey accent chair like the pic I have and of course accenting with a great area rug in the end. So sorry for the indecision! Just added some pics of some side tables as well. Out of curiosity what do you think of a tea cart on casters? Thanks again!

Hi! Good to hear from you. Just remember, this is a "process" and it takes time and thought, and a rest period is often needed by most. So relax on that. The first picture with the orange chair, I'm not crazy about. The gray chair and your sofa and the easy chair with wood arms etc. I think that is nice basic set up. I don't like the "rustic" side table, but I do like the chrome and glass. I think that works better with your modern pieces. Some like the yellow with gray, but I am not a fan of yellow. I think your next step is to either get the rug and pull accent colors for pillows from that, or art work for above the sofa and pull colors from that. Loads of sales going on right now, so good luck on that. I will hunt a bit for art. That is where I would start. It is just about the hardest, because everyone is different and art is so personal. But some tips might move you in the right direction. Art gives "inspiration" which it sounds like is what you need right now.

    Back later-

Hi Flo, thanks so much fir your advice! Much needed! Life happens and I did take a break and glad that I did. I did come across this leather slipper chair and would appreciate your input! Thoughts and thank you!!! Chair measures 24 inch by 24 and height is 36inches.

Flo, here are some other options. Thought I would include the rust as an alternative. These are seen others i like. Thank yoy!

I love the deep blue one. that would really bring the room personality. The rug looks a little too washed out if you go with the deep blue chair. Perhaps go with a rug with that blue and a lighter gray or white geometric? I guess you haven't found art you like?

Thanks Flo! No not yet. I'm looking for a longer narrow piece of art work as you suggested but no luck yet! I'm gong to try that chair I also really like that one!

Hi franca1966, when it comes to the long narrow artworks we might be able to help. We offer all our designs in long 'panoramic' formats up to 94" wide, and triptychs that cover a similar area, and you can colour customise to create a unique piece.

Art is a very personal choice but 'bellingen' from our outside in collection could be used to bring your colour scheme together.

Or for a bolder statement, from our modernist collection, you could customise 'islington', substituting the green for a yellow accent if that's your preference.

Hi Flo, hoping you could help me with another project. I've decided to install silmple white solar shades on the kitchen window and the window above the wet bar. Wondering what your thoughts are on installing them without a valance? If so would you suggest they roll over or under? Or would you use a valance to hide the brakets? I've attatched. Some pics from other Houzz projects. As well what are your thoughts on the "zebra" roller blinds. Thinking of those for the front of my home on the dining room and do windows? Many thanks!

Hi Flo and fellow houzzers! I know it's been awhile! Had to pu things on hold for awhile but I'm finally able to pay attention to project once again. So I actually purchased two rugs to try out for the sitting area and would love your opinion! Also reposted a pc of the runner I have in the kitchen since when sitting on the couch you can see. Thanks and hope all is well!

Hi franca1966, your place is lovely! I love the furniture you have in the sitting room. Neither rug feels right to me--the texture competes with the wool-like texture of the sofa. It's almost like you're putting a painting on the floor. Do you like the heavy tactile aspect of the rugs? Can you tell us what time of day/night you use the room? I think it's interesting that you've placed the yellow accent pillows. I personally love yellow and think it is a very happy color. Are you trying to bring the outside in?

Hi! I just found you again! Hey guess life got in the way!! I had to regroup. Did you do the solar shades. Hope you got the "self valance". I still like the darker blue chair, and I am not crazy about either rug as well. I just see something simpler on the floor and something a nice art piece for above the sofa. I don't like the orange chair or color for your space. The blues are what look best with your kitchen look, etc. That's my 2 cents! I liked the kind of washed out blue one way back when. Keep working it. It will come along.

Thank you Rachell for your lovely compliment. We usually use the room first thing in the morning and then again in the evening! We are actually using the sofa all the time so it was time to get back at it! I am going to try another less "BUSY" area rug. Yes Flo, life got busy!!! Specifically the kids!!! LOL! Yes, I am getting the Roller shades but have yet to order them which is good because I would love to know what you mean by the "self valance". Does that mean covering the the hardware with the same fabric? I agree with the Blue and have been searching for the perfect navy blue chair. Okay, I am going to try getting another area rug that I saw. Does the size of the area rug work though? THANKS!

The size looks good. Some shade companies make a simple "header kind of valance" they can install in front of the roller shade. That is what I meant. The rug size of the two previous pictures looks about right. Can't have it much bigger with the slider door, etc. I think I have a couple chairs I will try to find for you to consider. Be back later.

Thanks Anthip, I am trying to make this sitting area a bit more playful...but I see what you mean.

I see that and I like it. I think if it were me I would rethink the runner. The rug in the seating area should be the priority as it is far more on display and you will sit and look at it. I would find one you love for there and then when money allows trade in the runner. But I know that's personal opinion :) I still like the seating area rugs. :)
