Various Agastache species also smell strongly of licorice.

Osmorhiza longistylis and other Osmorhiza spp. when bruised may have a licorice scent.

Can you follow your nose,locate the plant and snap a clear picture.It would really help.

I have been all over that field, and I can't find it. The only thing blooming right now is vetch, milkweed, and queen anne's lace, and it's not them. I am wondering if it's the foliage that's making that smell, because there are no oddball flowers.

Are there any mint or legume family plants growing in your area?Agastache foeniculum and licorice plant would have that smell.Do you live close to a candy factory?Can you borrow someone's bloodhound?

Maybe Pennyroyal? It's the most inconspicuous plant imaginable but you can't miss the smell if you brush against it. The picture is a little deceiving, the whole plant is about 6" high.

That looks like something I might have seen in that field..I'll double check tomorrow !

Donna, when you look around again, look for plants in the mint family, Perilla frutescens.
