Yes, the only thing I changed in the past couple mows was I used the 2nd highest blade setting instead of the highest. Been using this mower for 2 years with no problems other than a somewhat dull blade which seems worse now but the blade seems sharp to the touch.

Maybe the blades aren't spinning to the fullest speed?

Check the routing of the belt to the PTO and check that the belt isn't slipping. If the blades are sharp then the only thing left would be low blade speed.

Dry, tough grass tends to fray. Try to mow it when it's well watered, and nice and green. But,,, as said, dull blades and low engine speed are the usual culprits.
