If you are referring to upgrading to El Capitan, I had the same problem. I found all my images in the "All my files" and had to copy them into the new "Photos". Very frustrating tho ...

swamp rose, I lost everything in iPhoto when I mistakenly upgraded to Yosemite. The images actually imported to Photos (which is an extremely sorry substitute for iPhoto, IMO), but when trying to fix other problems the upgrade caused, the images all disappeared.

Hopefully, they are on my external drive and retrievable, but I want advice about what photo editor I can use going forward (and hopefully the old stuff can be located and imported as well). I guess I'll try downloading Gimp to see how that goes.

Thanks,

Virginia

I had the same experience, but did not lose my photos, thank heavens, as there are literally thousands of them, but it did resort them and was a big headache. You are not alone in preferring iPhoto to Photos, I do not like Photos at all, and from what I have read many others have had the same problems and feel the same. I have Photoshop to use when I run into the limits of Photos. I hope you get your photos back and work out the problems.

swamp rose and mossy44, I'm sorry you've had problems also, and glad you found work-arounds. Hopefully, I'll be able to retrieve my missing pix.

I usually don't expect Apple to replace a good program with something so much worse, but I guess some people prefer Photos...
