I just went down and took a couple photos. It's a pretty simple garden. Fingers crossed critters don't discover it. We live on the edge of wilderness, so no telling when it gets discovered. Trust me, I know THEY are watching!

When we planted the black eye peas I had a couple extra, so planted them near the palm tree irrigation. Up they sprouted, and now one is half eaten. Sigh. So then I look closely, and either it's my imagination or the arrow points to an eggplant seedling. There should be 6 in the row eventually. BUT I magnified the photo and noticed the black eyed pea next to it has a bitten leaf!!

Had to laugh about you knowing they were watching, because I can relate to the feeling that one day they are going to decide it is harvest time.

One thing else you may want to keep a watch on is the tubing. I notice that is the soaker type, rather than the drip type. I have found that the minerals in our water plugs that type of hose, and coverage quickly becomes spotty-to-nonexistent.

Any idea of surrounding or covering with wire fencing? Not great for the eye..but will save the helpless veggies.

Thanks for the drip tip. Our whole yard is on drip, and those emitters get clogged too! I'll tell DH we need to watch for that on the soakers. Funny, soakers are recommended for this type of raised bed, at least in everything we read online. We do have chicken wire that we can put around this bed, but it appears at the moment the critters causing stress are leaf eating bugs.

I also do emitters rather than soakers in my vegetable beds - I've also found that soakers don't work as well (minerals and water pressure issues).

A thought on the seedling eaters, watch for snails. Pretty much anytime my seedlings are capped like that, it's snails. Sluggo is very effective and you could even throw some down now, just in case, to attempt to save the rest of your seedlings.

Humsi!! I will put Sluggo on my list and put it down. I thought the raised bed might prevent those things. They have to travel across some pretty barren land to get to it, but somehow they know!

I'm always astounded at how those tomato worms find any plant. So far, they haven't found mine, but nobody grows tomatoes up here that I know about.
