jck910 do you think a porch could be added?

A great deal of money can make anything happen. But, money shouldn't be spent on things that are perfectly fine as is except for the landscaping and walkway.

If you want to update, paint the shutters a dramatic color, paint the downspouts to match the brick, spend your money on landscaping.

I think it looks beautiful as is.

I would take out those bushes and replace them, and repaint the the front door, shutters, and trim. I would also replace the walkway with stone or pavers, and have it lead in a more flowing (not so straight and rigid) shape toward your driveway rather than the street. It's a lovely house!

I think adding a porch would detract from the house, but you could make a lovely patio - sort of like a courtyard!

Hi Ann, It looks like the pitch of the roof might be a challenge for a porch but I feel it can be done. I would extend it past the left and right side for dimension. I would incorporate a metal roof and wood joists to add other elements to soften the harshness of the brick. If you do a porch remove the shutters under the porch and paint them either sage green or an oyster color (muted cream). You will need new landscaping too. Good luck, it has potential.

Why would you add a porch? Would you ever sit out there to use it? I still think landscaping will make a big difference

Jck910 We might spend time on a porch. There is a gorgeous 3 million dollar home across the street. lol.....I don't want a full porch across just something to update it a little bit. Maybe too much Joanna and Chip.

Formal gardens in front and adjustment to the colors. I would limewash the brick.

BeverlyFLADesigner, I like that a lot. The inside of the house is in perfect updated condition. It has been empty for over a year and we are getting a great deal on it. In our area, it is considered quite dated. I love the idea of the limewash of the brick. Any other tips that can help will be appreciate.

LImewash or German smear the brick, repaint shutters, trim and door, pull out the bushes and have it professionally landscaped by the same people who did your $3M neighbor's home.

Great photos BeverlyFla! I would change the triangular peak over the front door and do a classic arch shape instead (see photo from BeverlyFla) and remove the gutters next to the decorative brick work. It takes away from the detail. Of course, professional landscaping will tie it all together.

    Love that idea, Ellen.
