Finding color for area rug in living room

I have a raspberry couch, wonderful floral wing back, and a arm charm and ottoman (being recovered in beautiful green, which is in the floral), have hardwood floors.

I can't figure out what color area rug. I am thinking light, maybe off white and beige. Someone else suggested a darker color. I'm thinking about light with beige, doing a few pillows on couch beige with raspberry trim, light curtains with a beige edge.

I have beige silk shades on chandelier in dining room.

Any help? Suggestions?

I agree with keeping the rug light..I would not get an overly "busy" pattern..Your things are lovely.

    I'd go for color!

you should look at this designer's site for some ideas: http://susansargent.com

this one isn't my favorite, but the woven rugs are inexpensive:

I'd go for an oriental rug that has the major colors in the room. An oriental can have a lot of colors and is patterned but avoids being overly busy.

Either the gray or the light neutral. Chair is a winner.

Or..a few ideas..Sorry pics could be better..I was thinking a background color like your chair had...and a pattern incorporating all of your colors but not being very bold...sort of more muted.

    This is pretty too..(Rugsusa.com)

Buff and cream will be great here - what great colors - See http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Handmade-Alexa-All-Over-Damask-Wool-Rug-76-x-96/6539298/product.html
You will want some pattern to balance the chair. Layer in more small prints - and go for a rich beige on the walls for this chair to pop against.

I'd go for a predominantly blue rug and bring in more floral and patterns with throw pillows - not more beige. The green ottoman sounds lovely.

Try something in the background color of the chair bound with a border of the green you're putting on the other chair.

I like judyg's suggestion, love the texture and it would highlight your gorgeous upholstery pattern and color.

definitely a solid colored textured rug that picks up any of the more neutral colors of the chair fabric. by the way, where did you get that chair???? I have an ottoman in the same fabric!

A tan rug would be nice also.

Are you planning on keeping the walls white? If not, a cream color will make your furniture pop. Rug in a smaller scale pattern from the chair, maybe with a border, incorporating raspberry, green, beige, and cream. Make sure rug is large enough to place furniture on. Pillows for your coach in silk, velvet, stripe, diamond pattern, with piping, trim, tassels, any color you want to accent with. Repeat that on your drapes

The chair was a dark maroon leather from 1940's, the leather was pealing off, found this wonderful fabric, now I love it!

The walls are going to be a khaki or beige,I think, they are currently a light cream, to light, I'm thinking if I do a khaki or light rug, do light drapes with the khaki trim. The coffee table will be painted or removed. And I have tons of pictures for walls...the chair and ottoman new covering is actually a wonderful shade of green, not lime, but it's in the floral, just as the sofa is. I'm trying to stay away from crazy red/green, Christmas gone wrong look!

Marie, that is really cool, what you did with my couch, I love the green, I am just afraid of red raspberry and green...Christmas gone Grady, that's why I am leaning towards a neutral.
I don't think it will look like Christmas because the tones aren't true red/ green. The color scheme is pretty

I'd avoid adding beige, preferring instead to lighten the green and go for apple green and white accents. The Dash & Albert rug below could give your room a young, fresh flavor. With it, I'd use green and white pillows on the sofa.

I went with a creamy beige wool rug, a bargain, only $375! Now drapes and pictures to hang!

Do the drapes you loved in your inspiration pic posted here March 16 - simple with a colorful border - maybe the green, or a green and raspberry striped grosgrain ribbon down the edge. Your green is pale enough that it won't look Christmassy. Have you looked into DIY drapes with painter's drop cloths?

I have leftover raspberry couch, green on chair and dining room chairs (which the couch is trimmed in), fabrics. I'm thinking cream or off white drapes with a stripe of color on the edge.
Also accent pillows to be made in couch trim, wing back pattern, and maybe a creamy beige with couch color.
