HI GUYS.....HELP! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS BORING EXTERIOR. WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU PAINT THE EXTERIOR AND THE TRIM/RAILING? ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD DO. WE HAVE A LANDSCAPING PLAN.

it's a classic house, meant to be "boring". No shutters, please. The only changes might be a shiny front door in a muted color and adding visible house numbers and outdoor lighting.

yikes okay. I would like a different color and for sure no shutters. Any suggestions on color. Where would you put the house numbers?

It is similar to a traditional foursquare home. Perhaps the addition of a porch and a new color would change it enough to make you happy.

That house is a classic, just as it is. Wow. It looks it was picked up from Oak Park, IL, and dropped wherever you live.

I'm on the fence about changing the color. It's not my favorite, but it is true to the period of the heyday of that style of house. I would not vary far from that color. Look at photos from Oak Park for inspiration.

Gorgeous. Could imagine a cooler cream, or alternatively a sage green, but it's honestly really striking right now. Could do more with the door -- a shiny black or deep maroon...

Gorgeous house, as all have said. The only thing a bit dull is the grey sky, and you can't paint that. A creamy beige or off white would brighten things up. You already have a window box- hope some color there is included in your landscape plan. Congratulations, post pics when the landscape is upgraded and the sun is shining.

I like the idea of a simple color change on the front door. It is a classic house.

I would work on your landscape, it lacks definition and color variety. The "trees" in front seem pretty random as does the rest of the plantings. Groupings of a plant and contrasts of color and texture in the foliage will enliven that aspect of your curb appeal.

I think you're home is beautiful! I would plant some bright flowers in the window box and in the foreground. I also think your front door would look great painted BM Wenge:

Love your four square or prairie style house as some have called it. What is the siding surface? I would change the door & door surround colors to bring it forward more. The contrast of the all white window framing is the only thing that is somewhat jarring to me. Also perhaps the color of the house should blend more with the brick siding on the lower portion of the house.

I would suggest looking at some home images designed by A. Hays Town, Architect. His designs are classics and have similarities to your home. Good luck.

I think a more classic cream color would help. It's a beautiful house to start with however. Paint the break trim forest green and the rest of the trim including around the door sage. It will brighten and lighten the look making it more appealing to you . I'd also clean out the planter box at the front near the sidewalk . Leave the small trees , but fill the rest in with bright colored perennials. The same with the window box. It's boring because it's lacking color and life.

As you've posted the same dillema twice now I would recommend you consult with an expert to give you a one-on-one consult to give you a few options. Regardless the home is lovely, but perhaps not suited to you specifically?

    Good to know Rusty thanks.

Absolutely beautiful house! Add color with your landscaping and maybe the front door. It is far from boring!

ha ha Rusty. Wondering if any of you would come around. If you post again, other people respond so it's not a bad idea. I've hired decorators many times in my life. But that's one opinion. I like to hear from a lot of people.

So the white windows bug me too. The problem is they are vinyl.

Hello great house! A new front door color could really help make that area pop nicely. A nice light fixture next to the door could also be very appealing. Houzz also has a very nice curb appeal checklist that you can check out HERE.
