I think buying a (not-so-inexpensive) light with the intention of painting it is not a great idea. It's different of course if you have something old lying around. I'd suggest searching longer for the perfect pendant. There are SO many out there....

everything doesn't have to match...especially accent pieces. No one is coming in and auditing your selections...everything matching has no character.

Going to a lighting design center may help you to buy what you want.

I have the Paxton in my too-small kitchen because I loved it.

It's dark (the cords are black and the ceiling bit is dark enough to pass for black, especially against a white ceiling). I don't know if this is the same/similar or if you have seen it in person, though.

I don't think it needs to match.

I have natural maple maple floors (very light), will be painting the walls Sherwin Williams Uncertain Gray, getting stainless steel appliances and brushed satin nickel knobs on white cabinets. The designer I'm working with thought this fixture would be too dark. The closest we could come at the lighting store was a design-your-own with a base for 6 mini pendants. The cost was $1,000 - much more than I'm willing to spend.

Honestly, I think the dark "pop" with all the other light colors might look awesome, especially with those beautiful glass shades. I would try it just as is.

That said, Pottery Barn oil rubbed bronze does tend to be very dark. I had a PB flush mount ceiling fixture I had the same issue with. I actually used some gold Rub N' Buff type product just to brighten up the finish a bit. It comes in silver too. It did take some trial and error to get the effect I was looking for. The product I used could be removed with water right after applying so I was willing to give it a try. I was very happy with the results.

Your fixture would have a lot more visible surface area than mine did. It would take more time and probably some trial and error to use the technique I did, however it might be an alternative to painting.

Thanks for all the input - I think I'm going to order it as is! Should I go with darker cabinet knobs or stick with the brushed satin nickel I was thinking of?
