Craig, going off memory I think we were at 42" here. That is our typical height for wainscott, differs depending on window casings, transitions, etc. 42" seems to be a pretty popular height, ceiling height will also drive this dimension.

Thanks! (is this Mike C?) So 42" to the top of the rail, what is that...about 7-8 inch baseboard? How tall is the ceiling in there? We only have 8 ft ceilings in most rooms, so I am a bit leery of going above 7-8" plus the wainscoting (don't want it to overpower the room). Thanks again!

Craig, it is Mike. I want to say we used a 7" baseboard here. This was a 9'0" ceiling. The soffit might have gone up to 9'6". If your dealing with 8' maybe a full height wall paneling might work, typically flat stock material comes in 8' lengths so you would be using double the material but it might help the feel...

I appreciate the info. I was thinking of sticking with a 7" base, 32" panel, and 3" rail height for our wainscoting. Cathedral ceiling in one room, but 8' in the rest of the home. Either way, I appreciate your feedback.

Unfortunately I am and have limited time to spend on them. Houzz keeps me very busy and it's such a great site, I enjoy the interaction. Sometimes tough since we've never cataloged all this info in the past, I'm forced to rely on memory often. I've since learned and have started creating binders including all project details... lots of work!
