Hi,
I'd love a little help on our kitchen backsplash I was to do a pretty focus point above our oven and then also need something for under our cabinets. Would love to hear your ideas!! Thank you in advance.

The Granite is beautiful, yet very detailed and "busy" so it is best to stay simple and neutral and add color in accent deco pieces.

    Here are a few Suggestions...

    The following are from www.ArizonaTile.com

    Skylights Cashew Glossy Subway Tile

    Skylights white Glossy Subway Tile

    Skylights Fog Glossy Subway Tile

    Sahara Melange

    The following are from www.Kertiles.com

    Marmol Silver Wood Diamond

    Marmol Silver Wood Mix

    Marmol Statuario Subway

    Santa Monica Metal

    Santa Monica Brown

    Santa Monica Blue

    Hope that helps.

khuds, The example you posted would work beautifully in style, however not in that creamy shade. Beautiful kitchen!

Dragonfly Tile & Stone Works, Inc Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your help. You mentioned you liked my example, but not the cream. What would you suggest? Do you think this stone works?

What a pretty French kitchen! Yes, the back splash has to be special!

I think the "pretty focus point" of your kitchen is the island with its dramatic granite and glam pendants. Some thiings need to be in the background or nothing can be in the foreground.

I think your best bet is to stick with white (or maybe a pale gray) and go for just a little sparkle by way of glass, which will tie in your other finishes while not competing with them.

Second choice would be a white subway tile, where you change the pattern under the stove for a little low-key ornament. Like this.

Tru Builders LLC thank you for your ideas! I'm loving the looks of the following pic... What is this tile called? Would you just do this above my oven and then do something more simple under cabinets? Thanks a bunch!

Thanks! That one is called Sahara Melange for Arizona Tile. That would look great. I would go with the Cashew Glossy Subway til, as we feel it is a great coordinating color that brings the white of the cabinets, the greige in the granite and the medium wood flooring and ties them all together well.

The middle one (lighter colored). NO subway tile. Or glass. You are heading in the right direction. A feature behind the range is great if it is not competing in shade, but complimenting in design and texture.

I would stay away from glass and maybe go with a stone, to keep the French country charm of the kitchen.

Was going to say "No way". Too trendy. I would not buy a house with something like that, then acm posted her pictures and the last picture "Kitchen" is one of the designs I based my new kitchen remodel on. The inset is unobtrusive, yet draws you in. The pendant lights are to die for!!! If you went with a design like that, that does not compete with the countertop then....yes, go for it.

The Sahara Melange is way too busy for your countertops, IMHO.

What about this? Mother of Pearl

Don't think the rug is in keeping with the crystal chandies.

The multi colored Sahara Melange is not what I would use. Mosaics have a way of looking like a koeliedescope (sp) when installed in large areas such as you will need for your beautiful kitchen.

One will have the perfect random placement of colors, then the next one will have a less than random placement making you dizzy when looking at it from a distance.

I would use a plain white porcelain subway in a running bond pattern for all except above the range. There I would do a chevron placement with a raised border of the same color tiles around the chevron. Use the same color match as the cabinets or use a slight marble pattern tile.

Leelee would you do that for just above my range or my entire backsplash? It is pretty. I totally agree the rug needs to go. You know of any kitchen sink rugs that would look better?

Thank you for all of your ideas! I really appreciate them all. That being said now I'm a bit confused. In your opinion should I go for the glossy subway look or stone??

I would do what sandraclark said....."I would use a plain white porcelain subway in a running bond pattern for all except above the range. There I would do a chevron placement with a raised border of the same color tiles around the chevron".

See acm's last picture called Kitchen.

khuds, the Sahara Melange would look nice as a focal piece behind the cooktop/stove, though would be too busy for all over, l believe. Any of the Marmol would work with all elements, though we would also consider the Cashew Glossy if you are wanting it to be a modern traditional look. :) Blessings

Acm, I really like the pictures you sent. I just got back from Avalon flooring to get different ideas. I agree I need to keep it more simple bc my countertop is so busy. Initially I was going to do stone, but I'm liking your glassy look. Can you tell me what these are called please?

Another thought, since my cabinets are more of a creamy white and island has more cream tones, wouldn't a white backsplash stand out too much? Do you think I should do more of an ivory/cream?

You should get several samples, stand them up on the wall and see them at different times during the day. See how they look. That is why backsplash goes in last!
