Odd catfacing on tomatoes

Several small tomatoes on my plants have developed something that looks like catfacing. In decades of gardening, I've never seen anything like this. These are fruits no bigger than a golf ball on a Big Beef plant that seems quite healthy. Any idea what may be causing this deformity? Could it be from fused flowers or insect damage? I have just started seeing stink bugs and Japanese beetles in my garden. Could it be nutrient deficiency or something in the environment?
