Hi Phorwich. the limestone was quite a bit darker and did have a few soft spots, but we sandblasted all the walls which gave it the nice smooth and light color you see here. No chemical sealer was used at all. We also chipped out all the old mortar for a few inches into the wall and then re mortared the mortar joints. We were happy with the results. Let me know if you'd like the recipe for the mortar.

Thank you for note. It looks great. Same process was done for my basement stone foundation. In 2004, walls were sandblasted and new mortar applied. Today, the walls have effervescent and other flaking. Trying to figure out what to put on the walls so they don't look/feel so dusty/crumbly... Structurally the walls are great. I am just trying to improve the aesthetics.
