Yes: same as with tomato plants these tropical subjects must be kept warm at all times or they may become stunted, may even not perform well for the rest of the season. If stock being viewed while shopping has yellowish growing tips it has been allowed to become chilled at some point. This condition is so common at local outlets I think I would probably grow my own starts from seed every year, if it were me.

Thanks for your suggestions. It isn't looking good for harvesting enough basil from the existing plants and don't have much to lose by starting some now.

i usually start my vegie plants from seed but this year took a long trip and didn't get back in time to do so. Garden vs Travel - difficult choice......
