Is homespun a slightly looser weave fabric than regular quilting cotton?

Do you have a plan in mind?

Don't think I have seen or used this material. Have fun with it.

Hi Geezer,

Yes, I've made some quilts from homespuns.

I don't know how to provide a link, so allow me to cut & paste to a prior posting of mine which also uses homespun (what I referred to in the post as 'fancy wovens'), textile folks like I was also refer to these fabrics whose design is woven in (not printed on) as 'yarn dyes'.

All the stripes in the quilt discussed here were homespun.

I believe homespuns can be
more loosely woven or not. I'd suspect they'd tend to be more tightly
woven than loosely.

No, I have no experience with homespun fabric. Glad that you are pleased with your order.

Just curious, are you planning to make a rag style quilt?

I bought a kit at a quilt show several years ago that is homespun. I made the blocks but never finished the quilt. Because the fabric is loosely woven, you have to be careful not to stretch it when sewing. Now I want to get my blocks out and work on them. Thank you Sharon!

Homespuns are more loosely woven than regular quilting cotton and are great for rag quilts, which I will not be making. Mostly plaids that give me a nostalgic feeling along with primitive Americana.....I think they'd made great Bear Paws......I might play with those a bit. The scrappy strips are 6" long in various widths and for now, I'm just sewing them together in strips for a 6" block. I'll have to do a search for your post, Lena......thanks for the info.

Linda, It was when you first posted your stars that nudged me to play with homespuns. I've loved them ever since. I don't do a lot with them, but I still love them. :-)

Linda, are those stars appliqued onto the background squares?

Yes, Theresa. Just three strips of tan fabrics, like a "rail fence", and then a star appliqued on top. Very easy. I just made it up and you can do it in any size you want. Homespuns have a lot of give and are easy to applique with. You can see the variety of colors homespuns come in.

What great work you've shown, its folksy feel is just wonderful. Those appliqued stars are great, thanks for explaining them. Sounds so simple, but so effective & charming.
