What's to the left of the fireplace (as you face it)?

@Shoa Gallery - left is a passage to the dining room. There is also a door between the windows that leads to a patio. The fireplace divides one long room into two - a living room and a dining room.

OK what's behind the wall where the sofa is? Are you open to a little more than rearranging?

First impression? You should consider painting all the walls darker.

I love your house. Remove the artwork from the fireplace. Place two squarish pieces over the sofa to continue the mass of the chimney, which is fab. If the two on the post are a set, they may work, as the post should be a post. Do not put objects on the fireplace shelf. I like N. Ingram's ideas.

I would try moving the tv to where the sofa is. Perhaps onto a longer tv unit. Keep the right hand side table with lamp where it is. Turn the sofa round so it's facing the fireplace, next to the table with the lamp. So when you walk in to your living room, you walk behind the couch. Have a small chair or keep the footstool to the left hand side of the fireplace.

Move the dresser to the centre of the wall it's already on and have 2 nice chairs either side. For when you need more chairs.

@Shoa Gallery - there's 1/3 of a foyer and 2/3 of a kitchen behind the wall where the sofa is. Like a galley type kitchen. Long and narrow.

@dynamo91 - I have seen something similar done. This is a house of the same floorpan we have, with the set up you were proposing. Although, they have put a sofa along the windows and a love seat facing the fireplace. I will try this tomorrow and will post pics.

@JudyGDesigns - I am a little apprehensive of painting walls anything other than white. I would love some artwork though, I have been looking at some Ansel Adams black and white photography prints that might work.

Love everyone's ideas so far! Have you also considered getting smaller end tables? The ones you have now are too big for just a lamp, and they take up a lot of space you could use for seating!

Aviilu I was going to suggest knocking down the wall but the last photo you showed looks fantastic for your setup. Instead of the sofa along the window, I'd put two armchairs so you have light coming through.

How often do you need more seating, and how many seats? Try a larger piece of art (with that lovely blue!) over the sofa, and an upholstered bench on the other side of the coffee table. You'll see over the bench and can move it around the room, as needed, but it will offer additional temporary seating. If you need permanent seating (i.e. for a larger family living in the home or frequent guests), a second sofa or loveseat is a great idea, or minimalist floating chairs as suggested above. Love your space!
