Rick, great plants! I pick the one on the top far left and on the top far right ('Dino King'). How much is the delivery cost? ;-)

The cross between Racha phunlan and pet phunlan looks cool. Both the parents are in way to me from dino.

Martin, The delivery cost to me is about as much as the plant would be.

For the plants I bought shipping was much more than the plants. But that's ok. Once I have some good stock plants I can sow and grow my own. I want to add a somalense to my collection. I've read rcn is probably an arabicum somalense cross. I'd like to do my own with choice parents

Your garden does look tropical for Canada are you on the west coast? British Columbia? Bougies get huge here but even here sub tropics zone 8b or 9a they perish in a bad winter. If I lived in british columbia I'd go less tropical and have more japanese maples and dwarf conifers. But that's probably common where you are I guess...

Todd, I have to make a comment and do not do so to insult. Here in Canada especially on the West Coast or more so Vancouver Island. Our weather is fairly mild in comparison to a good part of the U.S.. My Zone here is 7b-8a and I have hardy bananas in the ground, Palm trees. Of course the weather changes throughout our winter and the season is shorter than Florida or California, but I think sometimes people in the U.S. are unaware or not informed about Canada at all. Think we are in the Arctic.

A bit sensitive about this as it is a common misrepresentation.

Nice to know about the weather in Canada.. I always pictured it as cold and dreary all the time.. I never imagined you had palm trees.. Guess I should visit one day.

The West Coast, but especially Vancouver Island south has mild winters. This time can have a fair amount of rainfall, but seems to be changing as in many parts of the country. Out temperatures now here are about 85 F and seem to be getting higher. The humidity can be another factor as we are surrounded by water. The Island is approx. 285 miles long and 60+ miles wide.

From Interior of British Columbia east it becomes seasonally colder. Very cold in the winters and short growing season, but high temps during the summers.

I can only speak really for here, as this is where I was born and have lived all my life.

How are you feeling to have big arabicums, soco's, somalenses etc..? I feel really sad to only have big obesums.

I knew the west coast was mild that's why I asked if you lived near the west coast. No, I'm not insulted though. Hey people in other parts of the United states think I ride a horse to work because I'm from texas.

But 85 Fahrenheit isn't hot to a texan. Highs here in the middle of summer hover around the century mark. Sometimes much higher. Last winter the low temp was 32 Fahrenheit for about 1 hour...

Oh yeah, Pagan. I received some from Dino just shortly after Jericson.

I love having these plants from Dino, but I have to keep it to what I have now. Nice to have a few different specimen plants of a large size. Have so many young plants and now time to enjoy both.

I've seen Vancouver "winter". One time, I even needed a beanie.

I have a neighbour, Rick, who has banana shrubs growing right at the end of his driveway. Every autumn, I see him pouring mulch on them and covering them up with burlap. That convinced me to not even bother.

And I thought it was Kentucky where people went all over the place on giant magnificent horses.

I guess since I have always lived in California. Vancouver isl is the place to visit. The Butchart Gardens are so pretty and you have shared other interesting places to visit. The territories around you have some very different weather.

I love our spring/summer/fall, but I could go with out the colder winter months. It interrupts my plants.

it is nice to visit different parts of the world and if I could I would live in Hawaii in a minute. The temperatures there are what I enjoy.

It is all relative to where we live and we make do with what is presented to us. We either make the necessary site to house our plants whether it inside or outside and if we choose not to, then that is our decision.

Thanks Susana, that would be nice if they bloomed for me. Not if they will. Need to mix in some on the obesum's in bloom, this would add a color display also.

Why wouldn't they bloom?

Todd, They could bloom, but with them newly planted and regaining new roots. It is hard to say. All just a hope. Many Arabicums bare blooms on leafless branches and if this is the case, then it may not happen this summer. Time will tell. Would love to have them bloom.
