The 3-5-5 fertilizer is probably the best choice for maturing / flowering / fruiting tomato plants. It is a sort of all purpose fertilizer with close to 1-1-1 N-P-K ratio.

Probably OK to use, but a waste of money to buy more. You should have a soil test done before buying any more fertilizer. I have been using only urea (46-0-0) for years, as my annual soil test show that I only need N, have enough P, and a near toxic level of K.

Your 3-5-5 probably costs you as much as my 46-0-0, and I need to use a small percentage of the amount you need to use.

My soil test past winter also indicated That I only need N and some more S. So I just have been using mostly Ammonium sulfate (23-0-0). But a little bit more P and K is not going to be a problem even if the soil is rich in P and K. .

No, sulfur is an essential nutrient for both plants and animals. In humans, it is a constituent of the essential amino acids, Methionine.

Sulfur is an essential plant nutrient. Don't need a lot, but you do need some. It is also used to lower pH. So it kind of does double duty.

No, my pH was not high. They said S is low not for lowering pH but as a nutrient , in small amount. My pH was in 6.2 to 6.5 range in different beds. So by adding ammonium sulfate, I hit two birds with one stone: provide N and S.
