Just a few

I've been away working and missed the big first flush. Nevertheless when I returned home I was greeted with a few pretty things.

Schneewittchen - old favorite from Kordes

the Lions Rose - Kordes. intense color probably due to lots of cool nights

Kosmos - Kordes

Rosenstadt Freising - Kordes. A star in a poor location.

Orange Dawn

Koko Loco

Orange Baby - Tantau. First to bloom, last to stop, always a star.

two views of Nostalgie -Tantau. This is probably Germany's favorite rose based on how often you see it!

Thanks for looking :-)

Thanks everyone! I did get Koko Loco from a rose park near my house http://www.stauden-und-rosen.de/index.php?seite=home. I really love the rose park but my bare roots were not that great this year.

Ninkasi, have you ordered from GrönlooF before? They have Butterscotch (climber) and I was thinking of ordering from them for autumn but if the quality isn't up to scratch, I think I will pass.

You have a very nice Kordes collection. They are all wonderful. I love the color of Orange Dawn. Does it have a scent? Does Kosmos have a scent at all?

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! So nice to come home to roses. Orange Dawn is indeed a pretty special climber, but starting to become a bit of a monster!

Hi Sharlene-- yes, I ordered from GrönlooF this winter, and was a bit miffed by the small root systems and severe girdling on one plant by a metal tag. DH picked them up from the show gardens in Gleichen (about 45 min away from here) and I was surprised by them because I have been to the gardens there many times and the plants always look good. They have the greatest selection in the local area. If I was in town I probably would have left those bare roots because they did not look that great upon arrival. Regardless, they have done reasonably well since they have been planted.

They do have a headquarters in Bremen-- I am not sure where the roses are grown and what the connection is to the show gardens nearby. So I am not sure what to advise here!

Hcarnevale -- thanks for the nice words. Kordes does pretty well here. Orange Dawn is a Warner rose, not that common, but it should be. The scent is fantastic and one bloom will waft indoors really nicely, a pretty rare thing. I do like Kosmos, it too has a nice scent, but pretty weak necks so the blooms are usually drooping. The bush has stayed very small as well. I am not sure I would recommend it based on that.

Kate & Jasminerose -- it is too bad both Nostalgie and Rosenstadt Freising are not available in the US! They are both phototropic and really dependable plants.

Ninkasi, I was under the impression that the owner lady did all her own propagation. I suppose when you consider the vast number of varieties they have on offer, it's probably logical. Thanks anyway! Still have time until September to think about it.
