Ive done this and yes they are tough to kill. I actually need to move another one that is getting too big in its spot (I had a volunteer American basswood come up next to it, plus I planted conifers too close to it). I plant all year (except Feb) but my land is wet/with a high water table.

Thanks, and I did read your diatribie but rise to defend juniper virginiana. Here where it is not ubiquitous, it adds a vertical punctuation and pleasing light blue-green color to the landscape. But I would like to have berries, so how do I sex them?
