Depending on where you live Amazon prime delivers in two days on orders placed Monday through Thursday. They've been working with USPS for Sunday deliveries, which just started in my area. And since then two days means two days. I had issues in the past on Saturday orders but they are now 2ish days.

Depends on the time of day you place the order, what warehouse they need to ship it from, lots of things. In your shopping cart, you will see the estimated delivery date for everything....I have placed one order late on a Thursday and had some stuff come Friday, some Saturday, some Sunday and some Monday. I sometimes wonder how Amazon makes any money at all shipping an order of 4 things in 4 boxes from separate places.

And sometimes there's even a delay if they don't have it in stock or they have to ship from a far away or backed-up warehouse. They are very good about telling you the delivery date for each item and I've only had them miss the promised dates once or twice. And really -- ordering on Friday or Saturday and getting it today is still pretty darn awesome.

It's rarely two days for me. if I remember, I call and complain and they always cheerfully give me a credit. I really don't care if most of my things take two days or four days or a week. But,if you are continually bragging about your delivery then you should make sure that it gets delivered when you promise.

I live in an area that Amazon services quickly. I can even get same day delivery. When you buy AP, each item has a delivery date. If you're not getting an item by that date, you should call and complain-threaten to cancel even-and see how they respond.

They might extend your membership a couple months. They did for me when they screwed up awhile ago.

Prime has completely spoiled me. I can tell when my Prime orders will be delivered before I place an Order. Some things come in 4 to 5 days, free shipping, while other items have been delivered the same day that I order (we are a short distance from 2 huge Amazon fulfillment centers).

I recently ordered some shirts from Landsend, I grew impatient waiting 10 days for delivery. Before Prime waiting for delivery did not bother me, spoiled.

Like mimi, I must live in one of those areas that Amazon services quickly. My prime packages are pretty much always delivered in 2 days. Occasionally I will get one on the 3rd day, if I had it sent to our PO Box, but that is only because it can depend on what time of day the PO receives the box. I had this happen this past week. Was expecting a package to be delivered Saturday, but the PO is open 1/2 day on Saturdays. When hubby picked up the mail that morning, the package wasn't there. We were by there again yesterday and I said let's stop and see if it might have been put out later. Sure enough, it was there. And, there are other perks to a Prime membership.

Sometimes I will put something in my cart that is not eligible for Prime. If I go back and look, the item is usually available via Prime, but I chose the wrong one. If it takes more than 2 days for me to receive something, it's usually because it wasn't Prime but I was in a hurry and didn't notice.

Prime has ruined me for all other online shopping. I get all of my orders from Amazon in one or two days. If I order elsewhere I am stunned that I may have to wait five days! One time I ordered something from Amazon on a Thursday evening and had it in my hand Friday afternoon.

I order a lot. For me, it's typically 3 business days after the day I ordered. (If I order today, it comes on Thurs. The actual shipping time is two days of transit, but my orders are typically shipped the day after I order.) If I order on Friday, I expect it on Tuesday-Weds because of the weekend. I live in a rural area far from distribution centers. Rarely, I receive orders in one day. The estimate (pre-order) is accurate 95+% of the time.

I really shouldn't complain, but I was expecting toys for my grands and I'll be watching them tomorrow. lol. Prime is usually on time. I didn't take into consideration the time of day I ordered either, thanks for letting me know.

We did have one major problem with Prime a couple of years ago. DH ordered a computer, two days later Amazon said it was delivered. It never came. When I called, Amazon sent another one (last in stock) and gave us a nice discount.

I had issues with Prime every time I ordered (a lot!). I called several times and questioned their "two day shipping" policy and was told that two days means two days from time of shipping, not two days from the time of order. According to their reps ... if my order is not processed that day, I can't expect to get it in two days. Sometimes I would not get things for four or five days. I see that this is not everyone's experience, but several calls to customer service got me the same answer.

DH is a Prime member, so I have him order a lot of items for me. It's a little bit of a hassle, as it would be much easier for me to simply click and order myself - but I prefer to save the shipping cost and the items always reach me quicker when he orders.

I'm also in an area that Amazon services quickly (same day is available), and I've noted that they also utilize independent carriers, as was the case yesterday (Sunday) when a guy drove up in his Nissan Altima and dropped off my latest expected parcel.

Amazon has been quick on its feet in responding to quick delivery. They use a number of delivery sources. I've also had "off brand" delivery vehicles show up.

I have no complaints about my Prime shipments and I order a lot from Amazon. Sometimes I'm astonished how fast some things arrive. We've become so spoiled. I remember in the past ordering something from a catalog or online and it routinely took 5-7 days at best - and I typically paid a separate shipping fee and a shipping fee to return. That does still happen with other companies. I had to order a part from Andersen Windows on Saturday. It will take 5-7 days and I paid $5 for shipping - and they're located about 40 miles from my house.

We're in such a hurry to get our stuff, aren't we.

IdaClaire - I don't understand why you don't click and order yourself. I'm the Prime member and my husband does it all the time. He even orders for his company on the same account, just selects a different shipping address and credit card.

DH and I are set up under separate Amazon accounts.

I was going to ask the same thing Jen. I bet you all could "add" each other to your accounts.

My daughter lives in the midwest, and I'm in Calif. She has 3 little kids, works full time and anything I send her, I do use prime, but I choose ground shipping so that I get the prime rewards. She has access to my account and loves to use it for books and movies. It's one way to get all the birthday and Christmas lists from her EARLY! It benefits her to use my Prime rewards.

Aside from that, all my prime purchases for us arrive in two days IF I need them that fast. Sometimes I think of her and take the ground shipping route.

My DH uses my prime account. He's not really computer savvy, so if there is a problem, he just lets me handle it. For instance, we just had to file a complaint because he didn't receive what he ordered, and the seller didn't respond to two attempts to contact. I chose the "chat" feature and they opened a claim for us. Easy to do that chat thing!

Speaking of Amazon Prime.

Yesterday I cancelled my Netflix account. I had the streaming account and never used it. The selections are junk. I kept it because it kept my options available, but I don't think I've watched a thing in over two years. $7.99/month down the drain. Yesterday I got a notice that at the end of July it goes up to $9.99. Thank you Netflix, that was the kick in the rear I needed to stop paying for something I don't use.

So, now Amazon Prime. As for video, I have a poor track record. Free borrowing Kindle books? Are they good ones? I wonder if I would actually save $99/year in shipping when so much shipping is already free. Fast shipping is semi-appealing, but not usually necessary.

Why should I get Amazon Prime?

We've used Prime to rent a few movies, but it seems that most things we want to watch must be rented and are not free, or they aren't available on Prime. Prices vary per movie (I think we paid $2.99 for each of the two flicks we wanted to see this past weekend). I have noticed that much of what's available for free to Prime members is old and often movies that are aired on non-premium TV channels, so we haven't seen a huge benefit to DH's membership as far as the videos go.

I'm glad you said that about Netflix, Linelle, as I've been thinking that maybe we should join up. Now it sounds like it's possibly no better than Prime.

I believe that you can add all family members that live at your address to your Prime account.

Jen, why can't you just log in as your DH and order the item? DH has the only amazon account in the house and even my older teen knows how to log in and order stuff (he does ask for approval from us first or just places it in the shopping basket for DH to see).

Maybe you guys keep completely separate accounts and financials ... then it might make sense.

@Linelle, I use Prime because it takes me 15 - 40 minutes to get to any decent shopping. We live in the county, but we have a drive to get to town, and the closest town has minimal choices. Free shipping means no gas or car wear and tear.

I love it because my family is big, and none of them live close, so I have to ship everything for birthdays and Christmas. So much easier to let Amazon do the job than me going down to "Dinky" town, and waiting at the Post Office through the long line... oh, and there is minimal parking there also, so you have to park 2 blocks over and heft your packages.......

Movies? Videos? You have to choose ground shipping to get those rewards. Do I want them? Nope! Does my sweet daughter? Absolutely!!

It's a win/win for us, but if you live in town, have convenient shopping, have a small family and love to package and ship things yourself, you really don't need prime.

Netflix has amazing television shows. Whether they're for all tastes is debatable. Amazon also is coming on strong in terms of original programming with deep talent and writing.

I just finished OITNB's latest season, and I thought it was the best yet.

I'm not ignoring the question as to why DH doesn't just add me to his account, and no - we don't keep separate financials. I've had my account and he's had his for much longer than we've had each other, so I suppose it's just something we've never gotten around to sorting out. I may have him go ahead and add me - although since he's the one who handles most of our monthly bill paying, having his eyes on what I want to order is helpful, as he's more aware of the best time of the month to make the purchase.

That's more than anyone needed to know, I realize. ;-)

I frequently order from Amazon and don't pay for prime (I wouldn't use their video service anyway). I just always order enough that I get free shipping and it's always really prompt. Not usually 2 days, but sometimes it is. (The tape on the boxes always says Prime on it). I am a late night shopper, often on weekends, so it can take a bit longer, but I'm ok with that. Even if I paid once in a while for something to be shipped faster, (which I don't) it wouldn't come close to the $$ they charge for prime.

Netflix: How can you cancel and not be able to watch Orange is the New Black???!

I use my daughter-in-law's account because she has it for programs my grandson watches, so I don't have to pay, but if I had to I'd pay just to see that show and a couple others they carry.

I have no problems with delivery speed here. Totally satisfied and things usually arrive in two days or fewer.

One suggestion I would like to make is that everyone use Amazon Smile (Prime still applies). You can designate a charity and every purchase results in a donation. Ours goes to our local Animal Welfare League. Every little bit helps. You do have to either google Amazon Smile or use the Amazon search to open it-it does not automatically take you there.

We live convenient to most shopping, so Amazon doesn't have a huge appeal for me. I may order from them a few times a year. Speed is never a factor.

As for movies/TV series I've found the library to be a Godsend. Just finished watching the first season of House of Cards. Also can grab movies through Redbox for $1.50, $2 for Blu-Ray.

Suzi, I use Amazon a lot, even though I live in an area with plenty of retail options. If I can buy locally at as good a price as Amazon, I will, but that's not usually the case.

As for getting something fast, I tend to be a planner, so getting something in two days is cool, but not necessary. BTW, Nespresso says two days, is often next day.

I've never seen Orange is the New Black. I guess I don't know what I'm missing. I have enough addictions as it is. :) I'm trying to migrate from TV stuff to reading books. I'm on my way. I watch baseball on TV instead of sitcoms (I hate them all) or NCIS in one city or another. All the cast stands around in a room. Each one says a line. Everyone listens to one another. No one interrupts or ever talks over anyone else. Every show is just that.

I am close to plenty of shopping in the big city on days I work, but honestly, I.Hate.Shopping. And as someone mentioned, we have found so many items on Amazon to be at a much better price. My husband orders many parts/pieces/tools (whatever???) for his machining work. It sometimes amazes me at the savings. You can order many pantry items too.

Certain items cannot be shipped Prime with air delivery. I've ordered Nail Polish, and I was going to order some tire and rim cleaner, but that also takes longer because of the chemicals.

Last year I ordered a ladies' hat for a function and paid expedited shipping and it got here late. They did refund the expedited shipping, so do speak up.

He has the Prime membership, but I log into "his" account. Yeah, takes some of the mystery out for him if I order a gift for him, but I give him a heads up not to look at his texts.

We were just thinking of re-activating Netflix to watch House of Cards and OITNB over the summer since there's nothing really else we watch (Game of Thrones just ended for the season). We canceled Netflix since it seemed to have duplicating content.

Terriks is correct. My DD and I share an Amazon account but we each use our own credit cards.

It would be two day delivery for me, but at some point, it's in the hands of UPS, so I always assume three days. Apparently our UPS branch likes to let packages incubate overnight.

Terriks - I'm still confused. So if DH added me under his Prime membership as your instructions indicate, would I still be logging into my own Amazon account - but somehow then have benefit of his membership?

No, Ida - you'd be sharing an account. You can set up different people on the account - your orders would be shipped to you, with your name on the shipping label if that's the way you placed the order. You can even have multiple credit cards associated with the account if you want things billed that way. We have 5 people sharing a prime membership, 4 at the same address, one out of state and each of us has our own credit card and wish lists. We all log in from our own computers but obviously must use the same log in info. We've been doing this for at least 6 or 7 years.

I reviewed the Amazon Household info. So, what's a "household"? Does that mean living under the same roof? It also says share the same credit/debit cards. How does that work when you live apart and have your own cards? I'm not making any judgments, just want to be clear on what's kosher and what isn't.

Linelle, I don't know anything about Amazon Household. I'm the one with the Amazon account in my house. Usually dh just sends me a link to something on Amazon when he wants to order something, but he could easily log in using my username and password. My mom uses my Amazon account to watch videos on her iPad. I just logged into Amazon Prime on her iPad with my username and password, and she can now watch movies. She and my father have a regular Amazon account, and she doesn't usually need 2-day shipping but a couple of times when she needed something quickly, I have just ordered it for her. Her credit card number is saved in my account. I have an address book in Amazon with addresses saved for people I occasionally send gifts to (my relatives). When I place an order, you have the option to choose the method of payment and address for shipping so I just switch to my mom's credit card and address when she wants me to buy something for her. You could always do that with your daughter if she doesn't or can't set up a Household account, assuming you don't mind if she has your credit card saved in her account. Or, she could give you her log in information and you can just order things right from her account using your own credit card.

I think I put DD on my Prime account well before the Household arrangement was created. I'm Primary and have all the benefits - she's considered secondary and does get the 2 day shipping but I don't think she can stream videos.

We don't share credit cards or sign in information and neither of us know what the other has ordered.

4kids, your arrangements make complete sense. I guess if you have a membership, you can sign in from anywhere, you can have as many cards on file as you need, and you can have the goods shipped anywhere.

My prime sharing is the same as maire_cate's in that I'm a secondary member. It isn't under the "household" arrangement and predates it.... I cannot stream any videos. I only have the shipping benefit.

I don't have Prime, and from what I'm reading here I don't think it would really be worthwhile in my case. What I do order seems to come within a couple of days anyway, as long as it is in stock, even though I select the free shipping option meaning a longer timeframe is quoted. As for Netflix, it's a keeper;).
