Toe kick

So, I would like to add moldings to the back and side of my peninsula.
Can I hide/close the side toe kick?
Or should I work around it?
Here are my inspiration pictures.

    I don't see a problem with covering it but you'll end up with a little cave that's a pain to properly clean because you won't be able to sweep/mop all across and out the sides. Can you box the toe kick in so it's not as deep? Otherwise I quite like the final inspiration image where the side panel follows the form of the indentation.
