An abstract canvas painting in colors you like or ones that are in the room could look nice.

I would paint a good pop of color on the entire wall.

Can you remove the middle shelf to lower the tv?

If you remove the middle shelf, you can put the tv on the lower shelf, and put a large art object, like a statue or bowl on the upper shelf.

Continue the mantel over to the arch/opening. At the moment, the wall is rather chopped up.

I think a large mirror (round or square) with intricate detail would look beautiful - it would tie together the modern and eclectic elements and make the space feel even more open.

I agree with Morgan - a feature mirror (I vote round) perhaps in a fun color?

I like the idea of lowering the TV one shelf down, if possible. As you look at the space, there are so many squares that I feel the mantle should have some round, or unusually shaped, colorful pieces. Only use a mirror if it is reflecting something back that is pretty.

Also, if you see something (baby-proof) that could be placed next to the fireplace to soften those edges, that would help.

Update more info:::Thanks everyone. I value all of your feedback the thing is lowering the tv is not an option mostly because - I put it that high for my child's safety and the fact that my Great Dane likes to stand in front of the tv. It is optimal viewing from my kitchen which opens up behind the living room. Also will be upgrading to 75" and that is where it will fit perfectly..... I like the idea of art if I can find the right piece of a mirror. Does it have to be a round mirror? I have a repurposed vanity mirror I was thinking of doing a white bone Inlay type of stencil painting- I could make the background color of the mirror anything with the white inlay tone but I do tend to like muted tones and my home is mostly white beige Browns and gray. Color options would be turquoise or green tones. I don't like reds, yellows or orange unless I can see a photo of something that would prove me wrong. Or I could also buy a round or oval mirror. Below is a photo of the mirror I actually have on hand from my vanity and an example of "bone inlay" paint idea and one more from the kitchen so you can see the room better . Replace the fan with one with a white finish that blends with the low ceiling. Select framed artwork that pics up the green tones from the fireplace surround.
