Dressing the fireplace depends on the furnishings, stylings and colors you plan on. You would want the fireplace to be part of and flow with the decor.

As far as the TV placement, if that is a real wood burning fireplace, do not put the TV over it. Placement of the TV would be secondary to the placement of the furniture which should encompass both the fireplace and TV viewing.

Since the fireplace is a focal point the TV may work best placed next to the fireplace with cabinetry on both sides.

Articulating arms can be used for better viewing. Doors can be added to hide the TV when you want a more formal look to the room.

When I was figuring out how to redo my fireplaces, it helped me a lot to just search Houzz for fireplaces and put all the ones that caught my eye into an idea book, then filter and sort from there to come up with designs that I like. You might want to give that a try.

I would actually use tile or stone on the entire fireplace surrounding, to give it a larger impact (basically, everywhere that's tan in your photos). I agree with the comment that TV placement should be secondary to furniture placement, but I think the TV would work well on the wall under the windows, with cozy chairs flanking the fireplace.

If you are going with cooler tones, I think silver travertine would look nice, either slab or tile. If it were me, I would run stone from top to bottom rather than just framing the opening.

Please do not place the TV over the fireplace. You've got way better places to put it--on the window wall or to the left or right of the fireplace--where it will have room to breathe and not ruin what can be a beautiful focal point of the room.

Agree with comments. Also, most areas have code requirements around fireplaces so stone is good to resolve that. Now the question is what stone. The angle Windows look kind of 70s to me. Do you want that look? Or more modern? Or rustic? Once you know what style I would deal with color on cement flooring, then select stone. Probably a darker stone and perhaps 12"x 24" format laid horizontally. That would walk the line and blend with several style choices. I will try to find pic for you.

Interesting use of two types of stone along with extending lines of stone with the TV on the left on bracket that allows you to pull out and angle. This arrangement of fireplace and TV would be best for furniture arrangements I believe. I don't like the TV on the window wall. Makes for TWO focal points and that is never very good for the design eye! I think you have enough room on the sides of your fireplace space to do something interesting. You might have to do it in a couple of steps due to budget constraints, but this would look good and bridge the design span of many styles. I will post a couple more pictures that provide some inspiration.Notice the stone choices. Two different stones or tiles in the same color tone. Great look.With keeping the fireplace wall the "feature/focal point", then you could use a large piece of artwork on the window wall. That would be stunning. You can take the style anyway you want.While very contemporary styling in this room notice the offset grout in the fireplace tile. That is a nod to more traditional look. So, several ideas for you to "marinate" on.

Grover yes I was going to mock up a silver/metal and grey for that area but since I had no clue what the furnishings intended were I stopped. But I think that fireplace is asking to be grey.

I used 3D wave relief porcelain tiles in my study and loved the result and the price. With the concrete floors I think a modern textural tile would be great. Love some of he other suggestions and pics above.
