Bit hard to say what those frogs might have been doing but when mating the male grabs the female from behind same as toads. This is called amplexus. What you saw may have been a prelude to amplexus and the frogs might not have positioned themselves yet.

Thanks tropicbreeze. They had both similar sized ear things, so I was thinking they were the same sex. I got a video of it, but I can't figure out how to make a still photo of one of the better views. They became aware of me and split. Maybe you're right....that I interrupted foreplay. haha Thanks!

If they were the same size they might have both been males, females are usually bigger than males.

Yeah, they were both the same size, so maybe they were ticked at each other. ;) Or.........
