Why? I would never do carpet in the kitchen! What a mess; unless you don't cook!

I wouldn't recommend carpet in a kitchen. And Berber can be very problematic because you catch one loop on something and the next thing you know you have a foot long gash unraveled. So no! No carpet, no Berber.

I have had berber carpet in a kitchen (briefly until I could rip it out). I guess that it was better than shag or plush carpet in a kitchen, but that really is not saying much. If I had to put carpet in a kitchen (which would never, ever happen - because carpet in a kitchen is highly undesirable for so, so many reasons), I would use carpet tiles (and buy extra of them). You can pick them up to wash them if necessary, and you can replace one if it gets even nastier than the rest of the carpet in the kitchen. With that said, I would recommend that you choose a more kitchen-friendly flooring.

In our last house, the entire house was carpeted, including the kitchen and bathroom--NEVER AGAIN! When we had a major power outage in 2008 due to high winds, we went without electricity for 4 days. You should have seen the mess of water from the fridge and what it did to the carpet. Also, you drop an egg or any other messy food while cooking, it's a pain to try and clean up! I love carpet and will continue to always have carpet in my house except the kitchen and bathroom.

Rugs are easier to clean if you have to have something soft in the kitchen. Don't do full carpet!

our previous home came with orange carpeting in the kitchen. you could drop a chef boy r dee ravioli on it and never know it was there.

What is it about carpeting in a kitchen that appeals to you? I agree with other posters that carpet is not the ideal choice for a kitchen or bathroom.
Perhaps you're referring to an area rug for your kitchen? Something that would be outside of the immediate food prep area?
