Congratulations!!! Looks like you've got a beautiful Sansevieria Trifasciata.

Funny thing is here theyre known as Mother in Law's tongue, but in the states theyre called Snake Plant I believe.

MIL and Snake Plants are both acceptable names here in the USA also. Congratulations, but why was it so hard for you to find a Sans? They are everywhere

@hellkitchenguy. Not sure really but years ago they were quite expensive. And I dont have a lot of money. £5 seemed a bargain.

By the way there are a lot of plants on my wishlist!

GreenLarry, maybe it's a regional thing. Over here they seem to be usually cheap, though not all of them.

My problem is space. Serious lack of. But I'm passionate about plants (obsessed, moi?) and I can't help myself

Welcome. Yes, it does become an obsession. But I like it! I too have a problem with space. But where there's a will there's a way. I have several bakers racks in each room. Thank goodness the kids are grown and gone. Many of the sans summer outside in the shade. The problem begins when it's time to bring them back in for the winter and I've done additional collecting over the summer and somehow forgotten the others. We seem to manage and hubby never says a word.

Thanks. I never thought much about the different types of sans. When I was growing up the only sans I saw was the fasciata with the yellow edges. Then I learned that if you take cuttings you lose the variegation. That fascinated me and I was itching to try it. I guess the one I have now looks like a result of that. But there are some other cool ones out there! Hahnii looks small, and I love the look and growth pattern of pinguicula. And then there's the one that looks like a pot of banded tubes that hellkitchenguy shared above.

The plain green Sans is a species, S. trifasciata. Not to be confused with the other species S. fasciata, which is a thick leaved desert type. The one with the yellow edges is S. trifasciata 'Laurentii'. The Sans you actually bought looks to be either S. trifasciata or the darker leaved cultivar of that called S. t. 'Black Gold'.
