Heads = dill seeds. Sprigs = dill weed. Converting fresh to dry measurements is difficult and not recommended since the dry is so much more intense in flavor that poor quality flavor can result. It is better to find a recipe that calls for what you have available.

That said, if you wish to substitute and willing to accept the results then 3 heads of dill = approx. 1 T of dill seed. Since your recipe calls for only 2 heads per jar it is apparently a rather mild recipe. I'd suggest maybe 2 tsp. dill seed per jar and since you already have the fresh dill sprigs then try putting 1-2 of them in each jar as well. If it isn't dill enough when you open the jar you can always add more seeds then and store in the fridge.

Recipes that call for using dill heads often assume you are growing the dill yourself since finding it otherwise can be difficult.

Thank you so much.I normally grow it myself but last year I has tons of dill and no cukes.Then my wonderful husband tilled up that spot ( no clue what he thought he was doing ) so none came back and I'm overrun with cucumbers. I already made several other recipes with dried but wanted to try something different.I was going to try the sweet chunks recipe from here as well.Would it still be ok if I added a couple hot peppers to it? Its Linda Lou sweet chunk recipe.My kids love the wickles pickles so I thought that might be similar.Thanks again for your help.
