Kitchen island question

So I have my heart set on having an island. My husband wants a peninsula. If we have the island (as shown with tape) does the stove top have to be aligned with the fridge? I personally think it would look better but island would not be the same sides on each side of the cooktop in order to allow atleast 36in of walk-through space. Ideas? Thoughts?
