Chipping is normal with any type of stone counter, including e-stone. Fill with superglue, then razor blade off the excess after it cures.

I think it would look best if it was touched up with a filler that matches the countertop.

If you haven't moved in, I think you have recourse. It's either manufacturing defect or fabrication / installation flaw. In many areas, new owners have warranty periods on sellers. They should make it good, preferably before you move in where you have some levereage. If that's wood you're seeing, it's not quartz. If seller represented as quartz, you have them over a barrel. I have quartz. There's no wood IN it, only UNDER it holding it up.

Is it a laminate?

If it's a new home make the builder replace said countertop. Otherwise I would discuss with your broker and create pressure for them to make good. I presume this is faux Caesarstone and not the real McCoy.

I don't think anyone is saying she must accept and fix it. If the seller can fix it or offer a concession, that's great. I read the question as how vs. who.

Quartz is a solid slab of material with several different colored aggregates in it. There is no wood in it.

Quartz countertops are 93% quartz & 7% resin. Natural granite is 40-60% quartz plus other minerals that make it softer and weaker. Neither contain wood.

Is your countertop a sparkly-grey type? It might just be an upside down mirror piece

Hmmm i thought quartz counter was super strong, then how come there is chipping and its considered common in this post? I am only asking, because i have something very similar with less specs in it and also black and i do notice divots coming up and it chipping. I didnt think that would happen within 1 month of having it installed. Such a disappointing purchase.

yes... so far we know that (some) granites naturally give off radon. and try to discover which do or don't without owning a geiger counter.

we do know that cutting through quartz slabs is a health hazard; if i worked in the office of a fabricator i'd worry a bit. if i were a fabricator i'd have that dust mask on the whole time i was at work. homeowners seem to be safe from the problem once the holes are drilled. its good to have dust walls up to other living areas and negative air flow from the room being worked out.
