Without knowing more specifics about your piece it's hard to say. If it has metal glides, there could be a loose screw, jammed bearing, or bent track. If it has wooden glides it's common for imported furniture to have warped glides by the time they arrive on-shore. I'd call Pottery Barn and have them send someone to fix it.

Believe me, I've repaired a bunch of them doing warranty service. Sometimes multiple drawers on the same piece.

PB may or may not be able to tell you the expected distance it should come out. If it's half or less, I think you have a problem.

This is not just one drawer- every drawer in the dresser is like this. I think it is supposed to work like this, probably as a safety feature as it's a child's dresser. But I didn't know this before I bought it, and now I want to override it if anyone has any ideas how to do this.

Turn it upside down and if the bottom of lower drawer is visiable you can figure out how to circumvent the desighn. If bottom has a cover,turn it back upright and lay a mirror and light inside center drawer to view bottom of top drawer.

If "it's not a bug, it's a feature" then you might be able to disable and make a stop further out. I've never seen a drawer that would not come out, one way or the other. Some possible ways:

- metal glides with a lock on the glide

- plastic stops on the bottom or top

- metal pins on the sides or bottom of drawers

- friction fit ( a good tug will release the stop)

Look around with a flashlight and you might see how to get them out.

It's true, this is designed to prevent tip-overs.

So I called Pottery Barn customer service, and they came out to fix it. It was the drawer stops. They had been placed too far in the front. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

I GOT IT !!!!! I have had the same problem for years, and your question made me experiment. Gently tug on the drawers and you will find it comes out a bit more each time. You will find one side to probably be tighter than the other. It must be slightly warped or something....keep tugging, without breaking it, until it is as extended as it was meant to be!!!!! YAY!!!!! I can finally see what is inside my desk drawers : ))))))

I cannot find any way at all on how to pull drawer out completely. I have issues when my kids don't close drawers and doors and now I have 2 drawers stuck open couple inches at least. Tight fit on every side.

I really don't want to take bottom panel off.

I heard something fall back there and I cannot see it or get to it.

Let me guess, are you in a humid climate? And it's summer. This unit was probably built somewhere drier, and it has swelled with the summer humidity. I'm not sure you will be able to close those drawers until the air dries out.

One solution might be to seal the unfinished wood inside the cabinet and drawers. When it's very dry in the winter and everything fits. That may cut down the absorption of moisture in the summer. Something like polyurethane varnish would do it.

If you see an arrow on a metal track with a screw above it that has a specific point for a specific screwdriver that comes with the drawers. There is an arrow pointing towards the front of the drawer; there is a small metal latch. Pull it towards you on both sides. It should start moving if you wiggle just a bit. Wear gloves if you don't want to hurt your fingers. If it's old, the metal & plywood can be warped as well as VERY child proofed. It should work.

You could also use Google Lens, Meta AI, etc.
