Jude the Obscure - a little faded from the heat but still putting out blooms.

Molineux - I think of this rose as the Julia Child of the Austins - it's a bloom machine and seemingly indestructible - keeps going no matter what the weather.

Benjamin Britten - an unusual color that my iPhone can't quite capture. There's an orange shade under the red that's missing. Just got this rose as band from Burling Leong in March and it's doing great!

Gertrude Jekyll - on its second flush and still producing that wonderful dark pink shade!

Beautiful! Do you happen to have Evelyn? I think I'm falling in love with her. I really like your Mary rose. Mine gets a little to much shade I think. Did you purchase it locally or order it? It's beautiful in that tree standard form of yours. I've never seen any Austins offered as standards anywhere. What a great space saver! Lisa

Hi Lisa - I just got Evelyn as an own root band from Chamblees a few months ago. It's been growing vigorously from day one and it's now at a one gallon+ size. So far, my Evelyn looks like Abe Darby but I expect she'll change as she develops more.

I ordered Mary Rose, Charlotte and Tamora as rose standards from David Austin. They arrived in good shape and have been growing slowly but consistently. Mary Rose is the best of the three overall in health, growth and flowering. I think I saw DA tree standards at Regan Nursery in the SF Bay Area in prior years, not sure if they were offered this past year.

My three standards are planted in a row in front of a fence that looks a bit dreary. My hope is that they'll grow tall enough to offer a sufficient mass of color and cheer. If you buy one, post some pics - would love to see more!

You have so many gorgeous Austins. I absolutely love them. I've had a Mary Rose standard for prob 5 or 6 years and it's a great bloomer too. I love her. I have a bush of her too. I too ordered mine from DA. I have Tamora I think and some Anne Bolyn standards. Love them. I love your shots of Jude. I purchased three this year and they're kinda slow growing. Lovely Austins Ann... my GJ is pumping out buds and blooms too.. I have it in a container under my wisteria tree so it mostly gets shade with the west setting sun.. it seems to do well in its spot. I like the glow in the second picture of the Molineux. Thanks for sharing.

Judy - I've never owned a standard before. Do you ever prune your trees at all? Mine are growing so slowly I don't see myself needing to trim anything soon but just curious since you've had your standards for awhile.

Haku - My GJ started out this year in the ground at about less than 3ft tall. I'm exactly 5ft tall and GJ now reaches my eyebrows - be warned! :)

Towandaaz - I have two Molineux growing together to look like one shrub and it works great so I think the idea of a grouping or hedge is a good one! It really is a multi-colored wonder and I enjoy taking photos of all the variations in color as well as form. My JtO was own root and given how long it's taken, I hope you have grafted ones. I really like Austins and will be focused on getting more of the older, tried and true ones like Evelyn.

A feast for the eyes. I never tire of looking at beautiful Austins.

'Mary Rose' lost out to 'Heritage' back when I was choosing my first Austin. I'd read that Austin considered 'Heritage' his best rose. If I had a magic wand I'd change 'Heritage' to 'Mary Rose' without hesitation.

They are all so gorgeous!!!! Mary Rose, JtO, and Olivia Rose Austin are outstanding!!! Wow!!! You've got some wonderful roses and they really do well for you!!!

FYI to everyone who loves DA roses - you might enjoy this public Facebook page called David Austin Roses Lovers. It's interesting to see DA roses grown in Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.. Most of the posts are of the most popular varieties like Boscobel or Munstead Wood, but some feature older or less popular roses like Pegasus or Skylark that you don't see to much of. There's also Rose Gardening World, on Facebook that's fun too.

Thank you Anne. I looked at the DA site you linked. Looks like they are all sold out until next spring. I was hoping to find Evelyn grafted to a standard, but no such luck. That would be my dream rose, I think. Evelyn tree standard. I'll be checking Regans next.

I especially like Heritage, Evelyn and Molineux... Great photos!

Lisa - I would have loved a different selection of DA roses for tree standards. I wanted a range of colors and fragrance and the choices they offered seemed to have one or the other but not both. I would definitely have bought Evelyn if that had been an option!

Ann - aww thanks. :) I should take a picture of the climbing type cage I put SH around. Now there are blooms coming from the sideways canes. So many blooms!!! I'm going to do that for all of my floppy Austins that I may get.
