It could definitely do with being lower - perhaps you could hang it vertically instead and lower it at the same time?

I've tried. Issue is then if I do tall things that I put on that table will look odd

Let's hang it vertically and lower and see a pic. Then add the items and we will offer advice. On your mark , get set,,, go

Try it vertically to one side, then you could put something taller on the other side if that is something you want.

I am sorry if anyone was offended by my comment, but I stand by what I said. This does not look right. I was assuming that you wanted advice. I think the mirror is too small either for the table or the wall. There is too much space between the item and the table, even if you put a wonderful piece of artwork on top of the table. The balance is off and instead of complimenting each other, they are distracting. Your eyes should work around the room and rest. This arrangement does not accomplish that. We have all been young, had our first place and made mistakes. You learn to move things to the right place and to rotate your furniture so that it grows with you. If you love the piece, keep it, but be prepared to move it or change things around. If you want ideas on how to decorate a table top under a picture, look at the books the late Charles Faudree wrote. He was a master at it. He focused on scale and symmetry.

Agree it is way too high, and vertical might look better. And it is OK if some of the table arrangement goes above the frame of the picture. You seem to want them to be two separate areas, but they can and should interact. A vertical position will allow you to put taller items to the sides though if you want to avoid that.

It might help to see how this interacts with the rest of the room as well ... this looks like it could be an entry table with a mirror above it, and if so the mirror should definitely be at the correct height to use for a quick look before you go out. Actually I cannot really think of a reason the mirror should ever be hung higher than a level one would actually be able to look at oneself in it, unless part of a gallery wall.

Bellburgmaggie ... I understand that but there is a way to present advice and criticism , even if you totally disagree with what someone is saying . The last comment you just wrote would have been the perfect way to answer before rather than coming off as rude when I was asking for guidance . Thank you. I took the mirror down and I am going to try again tonight .

Artists can be high strung. They are passionate about their work. We can all learn to be kinder, but remember, you cannot tell tone of voice or body language over the net. People are generally here to help.

I think you need to ADD to what you have. Read the article to the link I just sent and here is a picture. And there have been people on this site who post ridiculous photos to let us posters spin our wheels. I am glad you are not one of them. And I refer to Faudree because I knew Faudree. There are other designers out there who are talented, but he had such a gift.

Looks so much better. When putting things on the table - think in odd numbers - 1, 3, 5 and not little things. Bring home a bunch of things (as long as you can return them) and play with them. So much fun - wish I could shop with you.

Instead of shopping for new things to put on table, look around your home and your mothers home to find some things that are meaningful to you. A collection of items just purchased to go on a table is just going to be too new and trendy. Find things like old family photos or momentous of a special place or day in your life and use them as decor and conversation starters instead of just the latest thing you have shopped for. Then the space will sing.

Sorry, but I still think it looks like you put up a mirror in the wrong position. Lowering it helped but sure wish we could see the mirror hung vertically.

I personally think the mirror needs to be vertical. It looks like a mistake the way it's hanging.

I recommend lowering the mirror and change out the small flower arrangement for a larger flower arrangement. You're getting there; don't be discouraged it's a learning process we all go through it. Hang in there.

Bell, you knew Charles Faudree?? Awesome!!! He's my absolute favorite! I have most of his books, and I always use his ideas for inspiration. He was a genius!! I know that not everyone loves his style, especially here in Houzz where most designers seem to be more contemporary, but I do! I just don't think there's anyone out there as gifted as he was, and I was so sad to hear that he passed.

I used LED battery sconces in this image. This mirror should serve as a quick, every hair in place, check as you are walking by. You would want it to view just above the top of the head down on an average sized person.

Yes Shars, I knew Faudree, I interviewed both Charles Faudree and Bob Cisar for my home in Tulsa. This was in the 1980's before either designer became famous. Charles required that you turn over your checkbook and your home and he did everything. That was not my style, so I went with Bob. They were both friends and as a result of hiring Bob I got to know Charles. I too have his books - all signed by him to me. Both Bob and Charles are now deceased but I continue to work his Bob's design partner Kirk even though the winds of change brought me north. I loved Charles work, but in the end I wanted my home to look like my home instead of Charles' home. One thing was after Charles became famous, his style broadened and the homes he did for the Hearst's and others reflected more of their style. He and Bob both had a saying "that just doesn't look right." It was said with a southern drawl, softly and you knew you were off the mark. I still have a Charles sofa in my living room.

Lucidos, you are a master at the computer program! That is the beginning so what the mirror and table should look like, it has scale and symmetry!!! If it is an apartment, she could also use candle sconces with LED candles. Or use her mother's plates.

cmarino, can you include a picture from further back to show the new orientation? And can you show how the current height relates to you when looking in the mirror? It still looks high to me, but maybe it is a particularly low table. I would think you would want to be able to easily see your head and upper body, at least from shoulders up and maybe more, when standing in front of the mirror.

Also I think someone said before, shop your home and your belongings for accessories before going out and buying generic ones. Much better to have things there that have meaning. Maybe some picture frames with family pictures?

Sorry, but don't see the mirror in the entryway, do see one in the dining room. On 2nd look, maybe it kind of looks like a painting.

Just my thought, the table in the entryway looks too big, but if the owner said to go with it, then so be it.
